I was talking with my friend about some doodles I made, and I began wondering.
Disney is supposedly using Oswald again, but as far as I know, outside Epic Mickey stuff he's only had one appearance in the comics. Do we know why? I'd think with the push for him people'd have jumped at the chance to include him anywhere.
So I was wondering if there's some knowledge floating around I don't know as I'm new to these communities. Do we know or can reasonably guess any reason why he hasn't been used? If he were to be used, if he'd be forced to keep the same design, or be modernized like Mickey was in the 50's (but not like how Lantz did it)? Would he be allowed to be integrated into the Mouseton universe or something, crossover with Mickey and Donald as with Madam Min in the 70's, or would he be forced to be its own separate world and strip?

At Disney's California Adventure in Anaheim, California, an Oswald character was introduced in September of 2014. Oswald greets guests and poses for pictures. The gift shops sell Oswald rabbit-ear caps along with the Mickey mouse-ear caps. Clarabelle's Ice Cream Parlor offers an Oswald Sundae. I would love to see Oswald in new comic books and in new cartoons. After all, he pre-dates Mickey! At Disney's California Adventure, Oswald looks the way he did in the 1920s. I imagine that he will look the same in any new comics or cartoons, although he might be given a shirt to wear.

There's potential in keeping Oswald in his 1920s form. See him as a proto-Mickey rubberhose character, a bit like Roger Rabbit. Modernizing him would be a loss to what is a pretty unique Disney character.

Compare the face of the 1920s Oswald with the face of the 2013 version of Mickey Mouse. Wooo!
