I am very fond of the early Disney newspaper comics (about 1930 to 1945) and wonder if anybody could help me with some information regarding these wonderful stories. I am trying to find out how many originals and original proofs there are left from this period. I am also interested to know how these proofs were made, how they were distributed to King Features Syndicate and newspapers all over the world. I am also trying to understand how the coloring of the Sunday pages was made and how the colors was determined in different printings, both in newspapers and later collections.

I noticed that David Gerstein wrote about Burbank proofs at The Disney comic forum about a year ago http://dcf.outducks.org/viewtopic.php?id=296 I also read in an old post from Poul Frokjar http://nafsk.se/pipermail/dcml/2003-August/018775.html that ??Disney's own proofs from the earliest years are done from microfilms and quality is often worse than original printed newspaper strips.? I guess this is not true and wonder if anybody know anything more about the Burbank proofs like when and how they were made, how many they are and so on.

Finally, in the book Mickey Mouse in Color I read that ??These strips, from 1932-1936, are all reproduced their full, original published size in color using the original color proofs as guides? . I wonder if anybody could tell me what a original color proof is and if you have seen these?
