Quote from user: Thomps2525I believe the IDW comics will all be reprints of Disney stories from Dell, Gold Key, Gladstone and Gemstone. (I left out Whitman on purpose.) Boom Comics reprinted several of the Italian Disney stories---translated into English, of course---but in 2010 some fans on the thread at http://dcf.outducks.org/viewtopic.php?id=731 noted that many of the other Italian stories contained a lot of cruelty and violence.
If no American publisher can obtain the rights to release US versions of the foreign comics, perhaps we can convince Egmont, Abril, Disney Italy or one of the other foreign publishers to start putting out English-language versions of their comics and exporting them to the US. I'd gladly pay the import fee in order to get new Disney comics!
Egmont sold toys and games in USA for many years (some of which were when USA had no traditional characters comic book publishers). They could have asked Disney for the US franchise. They did not do that. Why not, you may ask? Because the market looked too small to make it worth their while. Now, the market is yet smaller, and ever more tenuous in these days of disappering paper reading material. I can't picture Egmont, Sanoma, Panini (certainly not Abril) asking for the US franchise.

Quote from user: Roger NorthI think you have forgotten about the Boom Studios Era. In their last few issues of the core four titles they printed some classic stories even though it was just for a few issues.
These stories however weren't new, original creations for the American publisher; they have been created years ago and they just reprinted them.
Quote from user: FAaWow, just minutes after I wrote this the list of April titles was published on PREVIEWSworld. Look what is listed:
FEB150309 UNCLE SCROOGE #1 $3.99
FEB150312 UNCLE SCROOGE #1 BLANK SKETCH VAR $3.99
FEB150310 UNCLE SCROOGE #1 SUBSCRIPTION VAR $3.99
It says "(W) Jonathan Gray, Rodolfo Cimino (A) Romano Scarpa (CA) Giorgio Cavazzano" but that must be wrong. Looks like the cover is by Jonathan Gray that I mentioned above. And judging from the cover the story is the Italian "Zio Paperone e il tetrabassotto", never before published in the US.
Wow, seems like we finally have some information about the monthly series! Although I am not sure if the main story is that good for a first issue, I hope they succeed in their publishing tries.

That thread mentions ~10 stories, all published before 1972, out of >15,000 Italian stories. I wouldn't call it representative of the whole Italian production. :)

I can't believe they are bringing them back though it's sad they are not continuing to use the numbering from previous companies but it's cool they are coming back. I wonder if they have plans to release the other three titles out of the core. I hope they make more previews in the future.

As FAa noted, the first issue of the new Uncle $crooge comic will feature a 1966 story drawn by Romana Scarpa and never published in the US. Two of the different covers are pictured at this peculiarly-titled website:
