Wait a minute. These comic books come out in August? That means I might have already missed the July issues of Walt Disney's Comics and Stories, and Mickey Mouse and Friends.
At least now I know they are selling Uncle Scrooge, and Donald Duck and Friends.
Kneon
Yeah, I think this is the first time the Duck books have been confirmed.
I don't mind a 24 page Mickey and Donald solo comic, but getting used to a "floppy" Scrooge and WDC will take a little time... :-/
Roger North
Yeah I know what you mean after so many years of Walt Disney's Comics and Stories, and Uncle Scrooge being prestige format comic books It will be hard to get used to them in this format. I hope they sell them in stores.
Kneon
I just don't buy floppies now. They don't hold up, are a painfully short read and are a pain in the neck to store (bagging, boarding... blech.) So I'm thinking I'll probably wind up waiting for the trade paperbacks.
Morequack
A 24-page Uncle Scrooge?!
Brigitta Cat
Personally, I'm just really excited that these comics are coming back into print in the US at all. BOOM! has done good stuff with the Muppet Show comic and I trust them to not botch this up financially at all. They're smart!
Roger North
That's a good way to look at it Brigitta. I'm sure Boom will do a better job at publishing Disney Comics than their predecessors.

Well, I'm sorry, but I have to take issue with that comment. I think both Gladstone and particularly Gemstone did a fantastic job overall with their printing. Gladstone's quality started off as very mediocre but then really developed into an excellent series that culminated in their prestige-format gems which Gemstone faithfully honored and carried on. Boom will be hard-pressed, to put it mildly, to match their fabulous prestige format with a flimsy 24-pager.

So, we fans of traditional Disney comics will have only one 24-page thin magazine to read stories by Jippes, Branca, Rota, Scarpa, Milton, Verhagen, Heijmans, Gulbransson and the like (plus, possibly some thick special books)?
Roger North
Hey It's better than No Disney Comics at all. I remember back when there were no Disney comics. I'm referring to the years 1999-2002 and the first five months of 2003. We should be lucky that another company was able to pick up the license to publish Disney Comics after Gemstone lost theirs. We'll just have to hope for the best. It's not good to assume that the worst case scenario is about to happen.

>These comic books come out in August?
No, these are solictied in the August 2009 issue of Previews (Diamond's order catalog). Comic book stores have to turn in their orders at the end of August. Diamond compiles all the orders and sends a purchase request to the publishers (this way they know exactly how many to print). The 24 page comics will be published and shipped to stores in October. The larger books may be a bit later depending on production schedules, etc, but most publishers (Marvel, for example) will publish all of their August solicited titles in October including their books (trade paperbacks and hardcovers).

Oh Thank Goodness I hated to think that I missed any of the issues.

Some of those stories are quite lengthy, so at 24 pages they may want to consider changing the name of the book to the singular "Walt Disney's Comic and Story" ;)

It´s fine that Boom will publish Doubleduck in Donald Duck and friends. It´s really one of the best new series!
