This is obviously sad news, for (American-published) Walt Disney comics and their fans, and for the staff that has worked on them, picking up after Gladstone and a few (but terribly long) comic-less years.

Thank you very much to Steve Geppi & Russ Cochran for fighting to get the licence and for publishing the comics and the books!

Lots of truly grateful thanks to the staff (in-house or freelance) that worked hard to give us not only the usual comics but also new titles, including the splendid "Walt Disney Treasures" collection and the gorgeous Mickey and the Gang !

I hope the wait will not be too long till the next (and hopefully long-lived) series of Walt Disney Comics.

All my best wishes to the staff (Leonard/John, David, Susan & Gary, Susan, Travis, ...) for this post-Disney comics-period !

For Sue and myself it was close to a quarter-century run (with
hiatuses), but all good things come to an end, I guess.

I got my last subscription issues in the mail a while back. I hope all those that were printed were mailed to subscription holders (that there won't be a last issue available from Amazon and Gemstone's back issue department that wasn't sent to us subscribers. What is the last issue number of US, and also WDC?
I have doubts as to whether The Disney Co. can find a franchisee to take over publishing of traditional Disney Comics in USA, as a market of 5,000 to 6,000 is not economically viable.
I'll be mildly surprised if traditional Disney Comics continue to be published in USA.

That does sound like good news I hope that Gemstone will resume publishing their comic books soon.

"At this time, no final decision has been made regarding The EC Archives or our comic books featuring Disney's standard characters, but it seems certain that both lines will continue in some form," he said. "We all anticipate resolving the issues facing us and moving forward, and I will be happy to announce the specifics once things have been finalized."

I just bought this book at Amazon. It's really breathtaking! A huge coffee table sized book with wonderful art from the 30s and interesting accompanying texts.
