Anyone know what's up with Gemstone Comics? Their page doesn't appear to have had any new issues on it for a while now. What's their status?

Hmm?you're right. Our pages at http://www.gemstonepub.com/disney don't have the most recent issues available yet. Lemme put a word in and see if they'll update things soon.

I keep getting updates on Amazon.com of various comics. You might check with them...

I've just pre-ordered Gottfredssons "MM in death Valley" from them, so...
The story is not new, though, but the publication is.

The last time I was there they just had the latest issue of Uncle Scrooge but not the latest issue of Walt Disney's Comics and Stories. What's up with that?

My Library stopped issuing Disney Comics.
I might get them on the internet since I can't drive to a Comic Book Store and I don't want to ride the bus if I don't have to!

Hmm; they seem to have partially updated things now, with CHRISTMAS PARADE 5 available. But the most recent US and WDC&S are still (mostly) missing. To be continued...

Hopefully they will be added soon.

I would be great to get an update on upcoming books like the Don Rosa Library and the Carl Barks Collection - on the Gemstone website or here.

Is that the first volume of "The Floyd Gottfredson Library", or a separate publication?

Also, - has Gemstone released The first Daan Jippes Trade paperback yet? It is advertised in The Christmas Parade, but wasn't yet in my store.

No, I believe it is the next installment of the Walt Disney Treasures trades.

Yes the first Daan Jippes trade has been released. It came out a couple of months ago. Amazon has the second volume due for a May, 09 release.

Item not yet shipped:
* 1 of: Walt Disney Treasures - Mickey Mouse: In Death Valley

Delivery estimate: January 12, 2009 - February 2, 2009
Shipping estimate: December 15, 2008...

It might come by train, it might come by a toad, I guess over water - it'll come by a boat.
From December the 15th to January 12th, I guess it can even come with the Elves....

(I couldn't help it, sorry!) ;)

AHA! "Walt Disney Treasures"! Is it an entire Mickey Mouse book? An entire Floyd Gottfredson book? What other stories are in the book (and by what other artists/writers (if any))?
Ramapith
It's similar in size to our first two Treasures volumes. Along with "Death Valley," the first Gottfredson story, it's planned to feature Romano Scarpa's "Mickey Mouse and Chirikawa Necklace." The two stories are so long (about 160 pages together!) that they fill the book all by themselves. We're pairing them because they're arguably the two most important stories featuring Mickey versus Pegleg Pete: one showing their first comics battle as adults, the other revealing their first meeting as children.

Unfortunately, though, gang?I'm sorry to tell you this book has been postponed; we don't have a new date yet, but it'll presumably be next year sometime.

A significant problem leading to this has been the quality of "Death Valley." Anyone who owns the relettered/cutdown 1978 Abbeville book, or has seen the bootleg stats that float around the Internet, knows that this is a story on which high quality materials haven't traditionally been readily available?almost every modern printing has featured muddy reproduction, in most cases because that's all Disney itself readily had available for many weeks of the continuity.
At Gemstone, we managed to find some better quality materials, but while the linework has largely been very clean, the stats themselves have generally been extremely dirty and badly damaged. So the cleaning and restoration process has slowed up production considerably.

More news when I know it; you can be sure I look forward to this book as much as any of you. In the meantime, though, Gottfredson fans will be able to enjoy our reprints of "Mickey Mouse, Boxing Champion" (in WDC&S 698-699, moved from 695-696) and and "Mickey Mouse Vs. Kat Nipp" (in WDC&S 700).
We also may reprint "Mickey Mouse Sails for Treasure Island" in WDC&S next year?we originally announced it for WDC&S 700, but have since bumped it forward. It made more sense to have a self-contained story in the special 700th issue.

What about the Barks color library David? Maybe next year? Never? Thanks.
