For an idea about the colors of FC 9 these scans from the original comic book were on eBay:





This coverless copy of FC 9 sold for a measly $208. (I should have gotten that!)

Nothing revealing in the three pages except for the obvious, that microfiches (microfilm) are a hopelessly bad storage medium: the blur you see in the resized fiche scan here is even worse in the full-size image.
The bad colors were probably enhanced, and if the bad guys' black hats are really black or just dark blue, as the full size image suggests at the edges, is anybody's guess so far.

However I'm absolutely certain that the scanner did not white out shadows or retouch in any way.

I like the original colouring scheme better. My own original copy has held its colour well, even though the paper has "yellowed" appreciably.

The cover on top of this thread is however in _bad_ conditions compared to this:

The cover on the scan aboveuses a darker orange than my orignal (which is a more yellowish orange). I wonder if there were two print runs in 1942?- or if the colour gets lighter as the printing moves on? I don't think the lightening is due to fading, alone, unless only the red component of the orange colour is fading, -leaving the yellow more prominent.
