Just today IDW posted some news about the *first* volume of the Don Rosa's Artist Edition:
http://www.idwpublishing.com/don-rosa-inaugurates-a-new-chapter-for-the-artists-edition-line/
The first volume will be published in April 2015. It will be the first of 3 volumes that will print Rosa's Life of Scrooge McDuck in a large format Black and White edition.
I don't know if I can afford all 3, but I really would like to own the first one.

Interesting that this will presumably release during the same time frame that Fantagraphics will be publishing the Life of Scrooge as part of their Don Rosa Library. I totally understand that these are for (sort of) different markets, but I wonder if having two versions of the same stories will cause consumer confusion?

Personally I think I will be perfectly satisfied with the upcoming Fantagraphics version without having to purchase 3 black and white books at $100 a pop from IDW. Maybe there's more to the IDW project that I'm missing.

Not just simple "black and white" though. IDW's Artist Editions literally reproduce the raw original artwork at its original size, leaving all pencil sketch marks, brush-strokes, paste-ups and liquid paper corrections fully visible. It's a feast for readers who really, really care about the artist's process, and the craft of comic book creation.
Definitely not to everyone's interest (especially for the price), but it's definitely a lot more special than just printing uncoloured photostats. :)

Nothing specifically announced for the Rosa ones, but pretty easy to extrapolate based on previous releases: http://www.idwpublishing.com/product-category/art-books/art-books-artist-edition/

Diamond's solicitations list for March releases has just been posted, and according to the order form page 183 of the next issue of Previews has the information:
Quote:SPOT JAN15 0495 DON ROSA LIFE & TIMES SCROOGE MCDUCK ARTIST ED HC VOL 01 (Net) (C: 0-0-1) 04/15/15 SRP: PI = $
So they're not telling us exactly how much it will cost either.

Just my thoughts...
Most of the other IDW Artist Editions have been running from $100 to $150. I would expect this to be in the same target area. The other books in the series have been extremely well done...They are pricey but you can be very judicious in your selection of artist or series. I have just a few of them but have really enjoyed the opportunity to see the art as it was originally created.
I am still just so happy that we have the opportunity to have such a book, especially with entire Life and Times going to be reproduced. With the wonderful books Jano has produced with the Pertwillaby Papers, etc., Fantagraphic collections and now IDW, this is truly a golden age for Don Rosa fans in the USA and abroad.

I don't get it:
TFAW has an original $190.00 price, while 1-Up Collectibles has a market price of $118.75. Why the difference?
Plus, any idea if Amazon will carry such an edition? I definitely want one!

I think they probably serve two different segments, with some obvious overlap.
I would also venture a guess that this is just the beginning.

Hi. Has anyone heard when this will finally be released? It looks like it was postponed from April 15 to May 6. I ordered a copy from 1UpCollectables.com, but haven't received a shipping confirmation so I guess it's been delayed again and hasn't been released yet. Thank you.
