Hi all! I was just wondering if anyone here could help me with finding scans of neighbour Jones's uncle Jasper from this story: http://coa.inducks.org/story.php?c=D+96315 and his farmer uncle from http://coa.inducks.org/story.php?c=D+2002-230 both stories haven't bee published recently, but they've appeared in quite a few countries.
Any scans or info on other members of the Jones family would be appreciated!!:)

In the Bulgarian text, the uncle is called Jimbo Jones.

Jones had a wife or mother in one of Barks' late stories (1964), and a Jones-looking neighbour of Donald had a son in a Barks Christmas giveaway (but most of you would claim the latter isn't Jones).

IIRC, Jones' mother is a recurring character(or at least is often referenced)

Thank you!!! :) I've been looking for such a scan for quite a long time.

I found out about Jones's mother from that Barks story ("Feud and Far Between"-1964). The story also shows a portrait of Jones's father. I don't know about the Jones-looking son you mentoined, though. From which story is he? (I did find this 1977 one-page gag, which, according to its INDUCKS description, shows Jones's son. However, I don't really think that's true; I even doubt whether the neighbour from the story is actually THE neighbour Jones):

I believe he was in a 1940s Firestone Tires Christmas giveaway comic in a Barks Donald Duck story. Maybe it was at the end of the 1948 story with Santa Claus?

@Robb_K, yes, that's the one it's in for sure. Toyland is the name of the comic, I believe. Of course, it's debatable whether that is truly neighbor Jones.

Well, that was meant by Barks to be Donald's gruff neighbour. Barks did say to me several times, that several of the gruff and contentious neighbours he used in various stories after 1945 were intended to be the same man as "Neighbour Jones", but he had forgotten exactly how that character looked 9and didn't want to spend the time digging for that old model sheet he made for him in 1943). Jughead Jones in the 1954 US story in which Jones and Donald tore apart Scrooge's house, was, indeed, meant to be the same character (according to Barks)- despite many collectors and other artists claiming that his design "proves" otherwise. Barks was mainly only keeping the recurring Duck family characters (and, later, Scrooge's villain rivals) exactly on model. For stray stories requiring Donald to have a contentuous neighbour, it didn't really matter to Barks if he were the recognised "Neighbour Jones" or just a nasty neighbour.

I've found quite a few of Jones's relatives by now (mostly in Dutch weeklies and albums), and I included all of them in a family tree. If you've got any additions, please tell me. Hope you like the tree! :)

BTW, I included Jughead Jones in the tree, although he was never said to be related to neighbour Jones, and can easily be considered the same character. Including him on the tree as a cousin is just an idea I thought would be fun ;)

Quote from user: Roger NorthI thought Neighbor Jones and Jughead were the same person.
I think they were the same person, because I go by Barks as the primary source, and every other source as secondary, or tertiary. And Carl Barks, himself, in a discussion with me on my visit to his house in 1969, told me that he had intended "Jughead" Jones to be the same neighbour (Jones) as he had used in 1943-45. He said that he didn't bother to look at the model sheet he had made of Jones, back in the 1940s, as he thought that as it was almost 10 years since that character appeared in a story, NONE of the kids who had read those stories would still be reading Disnwy Comics. So, to him, it was not terribly important to make sure he looked exactly the same as he had in the 40s. In THIS story, Jones important and emphasized trait was his stupidity, NOT his belligerence. When I showed him both characters together, he was surprised how different their designs were. But, he DID NOT intend Jughead to be a "cousin" of the original "Neighbor Jones), just living in the other guy's former house, (as some fans have postulated).

That is very good information Robb. Of Course that form of his name was no longer used because it legally belongs to Archie's Best Friend from Archie Comics.

I'm surprised that Disney Comics allowed that name to be used in a 1954 Disney comic book , as Archie's "Jughead Jones" had already been using that name through most of the 1940s. I wonder if Archie sued for copyright infringement? There certainly was no stopping of the Uncle Scrooge printing of that issue, and no replacement with another name.

I'm going to have to agree with Robb and Uncle Carl himself on this one.
Even though "Jughead Jones" looks pretty different from how Nieghbor Jones does in the rest of the stories (shorter snout and flat ears as opposed to floppy ears), and the fact that Jughead is more stupid than belligerent, theres no reason they can't be the same person. I mean, this isn't the first time where the look and personality of a character from one of Bark's stories or from a Disney comic in general has changed considerably. Just look at Uncle Scrooge himself. He went through quite allot of different looks through the early 1940's, all with long side burns or whiskers. In terms of personality, Scrooge was originally supposed to be a sort of anti-hero. This is especially so in Voodoo Hoodoo, where Scrooge seems to be as chipper as ever reminiscing about his destruction of Foola Zoola's village. Still, is important to note that the circumstances behind the changes in Jones's and Scrooge's looks is different. With Jones, Bark's resurrected the character after over a decade of unuse, and later returned to the character's original design. With Uncle Scrooge, Barks was constantly developing and changing the character's looks over the first few years of the his existence (1947-1951), and when Scrooge did eventually get his permanent modern design, his personality also permanently changed from anti-hero to hero. Still the basic idea of "character looking or acting differently than usual" is there. In terms of looks, even Jones in the above comic scan has flat/rounded ears as opposed to his usual floppy, and not even the shape of the Beagle Boy's ears were never consistent. They were either floppy (closest to an actual dog), flat/rounded or humanesque.
Just my two scents. I still love the family tree though. I'm almost tempted to draw my own based on that.
