Synthetic Hermit
I think around 6. First comic I got was Rosa's Life & Times of Scrooge, part 3.
My first comic books were Archie, a year or two earlier.

This is a bit off-topic, but what is the meaning and origin of your forum moniker, "Synthetic Hermit"? Is that a fictional character of some kind? Or is it your ambition to be a hermit, - but success at it has eluded you, due to your inability to get along without the conveniences and easy life living in the modern society provides (thus the use of the adjective, "synthetic") ?

Rob, it's actually a reference to Barks' "Salesman Donald" in WDC&S 39: "That synthetic hermit can't bang me around!" Donald gripes on page 5. (Synthetic rubber and fuel being big issues during World War II...)
Synthetic Hermit
^ What he said.

Amazing! I've read that story MANY. MANY times, and never noticed Donald called him a "synthetic" hermit. But, I don't understand what that "so-called hermit" has to do with synthetic fuel or synthetic rubber, as far as what is shown in the story.
Synthetic Hermit
I've always assumed Donald used that term meaning that he thought the hermit wasn't really what his outward appearance made him seem - all style/no substance, like The Wizard of Oz.
If you're trying to make a connection to the rubber door, it's discovered AFTER that line.

\Yes. I don't think the synthetic has to do with war shortages or using synthetic rubber. I think Donald meant that the "hermit" was a phony (e.g. not a real hermit).
Synthetic Hermit
Also, "synthetic" could refer to the fact that Donald hadn't seen him yet, so it could be a "I'll believe it when I see it" attitude.

I was around 7 - 9 years old, I was reading Donald Duck and Co. Comics in Icelandic (ofcourse, native icelander) from around 1986 - 1993. I think, It was in maybe 2002 or 2003. Not really sure.

So then, you started reading, old, second hand comic books first, before you bought currently-published books?

And, your first automobile was a 1985 Opel Rekord? Mine was a 1959 Simca.

Eh heh heh...Well, actually I started reading them when I was 18 years old.
My sister got a few comics at the thrift store one time. I read them on a whim (to tell the truth, as a timewaster from what I should have actually been doing) and they so happened to have a lot of classic Bark's stories in them (I believe my first story that I read was Tralla La), with a mix of a lot of other talented artists. I don't think I fully realized that Disney Comics existed before that, and if I did, it was certainly not what I was expecting. I always enjoyed Scrooge as a character, though I'm not sure from where exactly...
Anyway, I was surprised at the level of storytelling in the comics, and the rest is history.

I started reading the Gemstone Donald Duck Duck Adventures that they had at my library around age 5 or 6 and started Uncle Scrooge and WDC&S not too long after. My mom got me a couple of the comics (an Uncle Scrooge with some Barks stories and a Goofy Adventures) from the in-house era when I was maybe 7, and those comprised my entire collection for a while. Eventually, those two comics getting water damage, along with the dwindling library collection as the comics kept getting beat up and taken out of circulation, was what managed to somehow get me started on collecting. And so I've ended up here.

I started reading Disney comics at my grandpa's house when I was 6 or 7. 8 or 9 years ago.
