I did however seen both Smurfs movies. ..
The first One wasn't THAT bad. Ok! Let me put it this way : I honestly enjoyed about first 10-15 minutes (which takes place in the Smurfs village). Maybe it's nostalgia for the cartoon but there was something charming about it. Few jokes made me chuckle (puns in the Polish dubb where pretty clever) plus I liked Hank Azaria as Gargamel. While the character was poorly writen the actor put a lot of energy to make him as over the top and cartoonish villanus as possible and I kindof admire that...
But soon the atcual plot started and it's so missed the point of the Smurfs it was just sad.
Why people love the world of the Smurfs? (out side of clever social satire in the Peyo oryginal comics)
1) It's set in the magical world full of trolls, dragonst, magic etc.
2) There are hundret of funny cute characters playing off each other!
Here the Smurfs (after first 5 minutes) get transport to modern day New York and we only get SIX Smurfs. To make things worse the moment Smurfs appear in our world we get dosens of unplesently forced product placement jokes and painfully uncharacteristic toilet humor. And as Review or Die pointed out - the new human characters where just unitenteresting and took way to much of the screen time (Which is a shame since I love Patrick Harris... here his just strait man who get's angry at the Smurfs antics)
The film still had few funny jokes, and a good message for the kids I think they handle well... but then we get stuff like entire sequence when Gargamel get's invited by a rich lady to a restaurant just so they can have a joke when he goes behind a plant and pee... Class all the way.
The second one however... Was just horrible, horrbile bad. It's a shame since they where some ideas in this one I think that where decent, but who ever wrote the jokes and the dialogs droped the ball big time. It's all that was bad about the first one times ten.

I've hated the trailers as well but after recomendation's from my friend I went and seen it...
Now, Idon't want to throw around words like "It's Pixar level good" but... Yhe, It's very good. It's just pure fun.
You can tell it was made by people who had large childhood nostalgia for playing with Lego's in your imagination and the movie makes a very good job of recreating it.
The jokes go very fast (even quicker then in "Cloudy and the chance for meatballs") so for every few weak jokes there are plenty of very funny ones. But to be honest the best humor didn't came from gags and one liners but just how absurd the world they presented was.
The w movie is also very self ironic - it both satire on the movie tropes but also in a way it's making fun of the fact it's about Lego's (for Lego fans there is just an in-joke after an in-joke) All the cameo's I was afriad of don't appear untill 40 minutes into the movie and they know when to stop. The movie also has a very smart twist in the third act that adds a lot of emotion to the story.
I think it's worth checking out.

After seeing the Lego Movie and looking at the trailers agian... I can bet that the directors of the movie where mad at the whoever made the trailers. They are poor representation of what this movie is...

Completely agree with Mr. m on the LEGO movie. It was a great movie in of itself, and even funnier if you're a Lego enthusiast. The trailer does it no justice.
Concerning Alvin and the chipmunks: The squeak-quel was really bad, but I liked the first movie okay, and I really liked CHIPwrecked.

BTW -> Ironically I found "Mr. Pebody and Sherma" trailers to be very good (it looks like such a fun and colorful kids movie), so now I'm afraid it will be strongly disapoiting...
Going back to the "Rescue Rangers" movie... You know? There is part of me that belives this may be good. After all Chip n'Dale are Disney iconic characters, I can imagine them puting some efort into it. It's like with Duck Tales game remake : Just get people who grow up watching and loving the show and the project will be in save hands.
Somehow I'm less worry with Disney then with Warner Brothers or other studios when it's come down to making a good representation of their properties.

I just imagine Fat Cat as a CGI character... Now I can't go sleep :(
Going back to the "Rescue Rangers" movie... You know? There is part of me that belives this may be good. After all Chip n'Dale are Disney iconic characters, I can imagine them puting some efort into it. It's like with Duck Tales game remake : Just get people who grow up watching and loving the show and the project will be in save hands.
