I'd love something affordable. As much as I love Disney comics, spending several hundred dollars per year for only a handful of titles is tough to swallow.

If Disney isn't going to have Marvel start publishing the classic characters, is there any reason why Disney wouldn't give the license for the classic characters back to Gemstone? My understanding is that the only(or main) reason they stopped publishing Disney comics was because Geppi was having financial problems in other areas of his business, not because of the comics themselves. I think they were easily my favorite publisher of the comics. They re-printed some classic material, but the majority of what they printed was new stories from overseas, of which most were pretty good(unlike their successor).

From what I understand, BOOM! didn't "lose" the Disney license so much as they ultimately decided to pretend they'd never been granted it. (They cancelled all of their Disney series months before the license would've been up.)
royromo07, re. Gemstone resurrecting/being granted the license again: that'd be great, but I'm not sure how likely it is, sadly.

Not to be Mr. Negative, but... If Geppi couldn't finance the publishing of Disney comics back then, why would he be able to do so now?
(And Donald, Mickey, Scrooge etc. are called Standard Characters. The Classic Characters are Cinderella, Pinocchio, the Aristocats and the other feature characters.)

I don't expect Gemstone to start publishing Disney Comics again. If anything I think that the Standard Disney Characters or Traditional Disney Characters as I like to call them will be either published by Marvel or Fantagraphics if they get published at all. It would also be nice to see some of the Disney Comics based on the former Disney Afternoon shows too.

I can't say that I'm holding my breath for being picked up be Gemstone again. I mean it would be nice, but I don't see t happening either.
Though I have to wonder, if Disney does have their comics under Marvel, I wonder how many people will flip out that Disney is "meddling" with Marvel by having their comics released under them. I mean, it really SHOULDN'T be a problem, but sometime people get angry at the stupidest things ever, and imply things that really not that way at all.
Perhaps that is why Disney isn't releasing it until Marvel as of yet, due to wanting to keep calm of the public fear that they will Disneify it... I sure hope that is not the case, but just throwing theories out there.

I don't think it would be an issue for Marvel fans. I would assume their fears are based around Disney ruining the characters they know and love, not Disney having Marvel publish comics based on Disney characters.

Does anyone know anything about the Americas Ducks scene? Are they going to publish anything soon or what? :)

Still no plans. Disney is coming out with a new comic series "Seekers of the Weird", but its just a big park promo related to the attractions and isn't really relevant to the classic comics. For right now we still only have the Fantagraphics collections.

That's better than nothing at all.

Not quite true. There's a possibility for Disney Afternoon releases in the US dependent in part on the success of the foreign [rewritten/remastered] reprints of Darkwing Duck - should such a thing happen, the core titles would be likely to re-appear.

That sounds like good news. I hope the German Darkwing Duck Comics sell well.
