Cool, a Disney comics forum!
I've long been a fan of Disney's anthropomorphic animal stories. I grew up on my big brother's good duck comics, and still spend the occasional Saturday morning re-living my favorite Disney Afternoon episodes. But I've never had more than maybe 30 comics that have been with me from back in my younger years.
Recently I began collecting hard covers and trades, eager to fill my shelves with duck adventures. But I dove into it without much of a plan, and now I'm starting to worry about what I need and what I don't.
Here's what I've accumulated so far:
- Gladstone Comics Album 1-28
- Gladstone Giant Album 1-7
- Disney's Colossal Comics Collection 1-10
- Disney's Cartoon Tales 1-15, 19 (except for Uncle Scrooge Blast to the Past, I don't think it exists)
- Abbeville Best Comic Series (large hardcovers) 1-4, 6
- Abbeville Best Comics (small hardcovers) 1-6
- Several Ducktales trades
I've also been buying the Fantagraphics Barks and Gottfredson collections as they come out.
And here is what I still hope to collect:
- Disney Comics Album 1-6
- Gladstone's Rosa Scrooge series, 1-8 (1-4 covers the whole Life & Times, right?)
- Gladstone's Barks Gyro Gearloose, 1-8
- A few others from that Gladstone lot, like the two books of Scrooge 1-pagers and the Firestone giveaway collection
- Plus a book here and there from Gemstone and Boom!
So I know there is some overlap here, especially with the Abbeville books, but I love the format of those so I'm keeping them for sure. Is there anything that is horribly redundant, or is there anything I'm missing that I should try to pick up?

Wow, that's quite a nice collection! The only ones that I can think of that wouldn't have a ton of overlap are:

Hey thanks for the suggestions. I have a few of those on my list, but some aren't familiar to me - I'll start looking around.
I don't have much Gemstone era anything. Are the Gemstone books as high quality as the Gladstone? I'm looking at the Spring Fever, Vacation Parade and Christmas Parade series, but I'm not sure...
I've seen the Barney Bear and plan to pick it up, but it's not a high priority at the moment - too many duck books to find!

Thanks Roger. I have a few of those (just got Barks Greatest Ducktales 2 last night for $11!), and most of the others are on my list.
I can't decide about Life and Times. Either the Gemstone softcover or the 4-issue Gladstone Scrooge Adventures Color. Any suggestions? Is one more complete than the other?

I'd go with the Gemstone Soft Cover if I were you. It has all 12 chapters complete in one volume. If you want the extra chapters you should get the companion volume as well.

The Gladstone prints are bigger, but I believe they are censored like their first run.

Gladstone isn't really known for that though. For example, their printing of Back to the Klondike restored the bar scene.

Yeah I was really excited. Outside of that ebay listing I found, http://www.milehighcomics.com/cgi-bin/backissue.cgi?action=list&title=50215191136&snumber=1 is the cheapest place I've seen to get it, you might want to buy it there if you get it. I've ordered stuff from the website before and they're quite trustworthy

Yeah I like MileHigh. Their store isn't far from me. Haven't seen it in stock though.

I myself had the pleasure of fixing an unrelated lettering mistake for the Gemstone edition. Chapter 8: when a character kicks Scrooge (KICK!) and gets punched back (SOCK!) one panel later, the 1990s edition accidentally put both sound effects in the punching panel. Not anymore...
