For all you Classic Cartoon fans out there: Disney is producing 19 new Mickey, Donald & Co. shorts set in different exotic locations. The first one is set in Paris and you can watch it here.
It was animated by Paul Rudish of "Powerpuff Girls" and "Dexter's Lab" fame.

I just saw the first one tonight via Facebook. While the art direction is markedly different from the classic shorts, it was a lot of fun to watch and I'm just glad they're doing *something* with Mickey and the gang.

It's excellent to see the shorts returning. Paul Rudish is an immensely underrated talent, and his work with action cartoons is remarkable. Samurai Jack and Sym-Bionic Titan, while credited to Genndy Tartakovsky, were all worked on alongside Paul Rudish.
The animation style is very interesting too. I'd be happy to see a series in this style, provided it had a little more of a budget.

I think the Paris short is absolutely brilliant. I love the fact that they're doing something new with Disney animation without descending into misguided, instantly-dated efforts at hipness. While looking nothing like its forebears, it nonetheless manages to capture the classic Disney spirit. Let's hope the others are as good.

It would be fun to see a reimagined Mickey, Donald & Co. sitcom series like Cartoon Network's Looney Tunes Show (which purists seem to hate, but which is actually very well animated and much fun).

I just watched the Paris short. It's excellent.
I love to see Mickey back in a new classic short. Although the art is different from the old shorts, I like it very much. I can't wait to see another short movie.

I'm in minority but... I honestly don't care much for CGI animation. True there where some movies I think look great ("Wall-E", "Up", Spilberg's "Tintin") and I wouldn't imagine them in any other way but most of the time I go "Man! I wish this movie was in classical animation" and I was sorry to see Disney having no plans of making classical animated features.
I was overjoy when I heard they are making "Snow Queen" in hand drawn style but then I got a frawn when they decidet to make it CGI... and swich the title to "Frozen"... and didn't make the two main characters siblings so they can have a romance subplot... OK! WHAT THE HELL DISNEY?
I also think that CGI animation age much more faster. If you look at the Fleisher "Popeye the Sailor meets Sindbat the sailor" short - the animation still look great and amazing but when you look at "Toy Story" or "Bugs Life".... Ok! I know it's unfair to judge the quality of very first shorts since they where still developing technology but to me most CGI movies like "Shrek" just look less and less good every time I see them (once every few years) animation quality-wise and I wonder will this be the case for most CGI movies that look great today.
I'm a animation student In Polish art academy BTW and while I'm curently working on a hand drawn 15 minutes short I know in the future I will have little to no choise but to work in CGI cartoons and I don't mind it this much... I just find the classical animation WAY superior.
( And just to point out I'm propably the last person who should be maing a big rant about animation here is an "articist" animation short I did seven months ago... Enjoy ;)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtGGsIWmllo - all animation made on paper BTW )
Anyway - I'm was very happy to see this new short (wich was both amusing and I love the animation in it) and I'm even more happy to hear more are coming :)

YES! I would love to see them do something similar with Disney characters (Heck! Maybe they would finally did something set in Duckburg)
I actually like the way they went in this show with Bugs and Daffy personalities. My only two problems with the show are :
- There are plenty of characters I love that so far got reduce to cameo apperance [Elmer and Pepe Le Pew] which Is a shame becoe I think they missing chance to have fun with those characters as well
- To much dialog scenes (or way to long dialog scenes ). Most episodes appear to be 80% of scenes of characters just standing there and talking which appears to be missig the point of Loony Tunes...

I also much prefer traditional 2-D animation over 3-D/CGI.

In Hans Christian Andersen's tale, the girl (Gerda) and the boy (Kai) aren't siblings either.

But that's what dominates sitcoms. Dialogue. People standing around and talking. Just look at I Love Lucy or According to Jim.
In a Duckburg/Mouseton sitcom, you won't get Clown of the Jungle or The Little Whirlwind. You'll get Donald Duck not having enough money to pay this month's rent, therefore taking a job as shoe salesman... and then having to deal with annoying customers.

Personally, I love The Looney Tunes Show. I think it's a brilliant use of the characters and relies on their personalities and foibles to drive the plot along, vs. slapstick. I could totally see something like that working with the Ducks.
I once joked that if I had my way, I'd make Mickey, Donald and Goofy stories that were in the vein of Seinfield (Mickey as Jerry, Goofy as Kramer and Donald being George Costanza, obviously.) The Looney Tunes Show is pretty close to that.
I'm loving the new Mickey shorts, Flash animation or not. My 5-year-old daughter was absolutely glued and watched the first one, like, three times. And if today's kids get turned on to the standard characters through these shorts, it's a touchdown IMHO.

The first one from an exotic place called Paris was better than I had expected, even if (was it) Daisy was very badly drawn but the mouse caracters were fairly OK. The backgrounds looked somewhat separated sometimes.
On a 1 to 10 point scale I give it a 3 with most Disney shorts from 1935-1939 8-10.

Personally, the three animated series from the past couple of years I've enjoyed the most are The Looney Tunes Show, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Scooby Doo: Mystery Inc.
As a whole I've found WB has done a much better job of handling their animated (shorts) property and their television animation. A prime example of this is their Warner Archive series which allows fans to enjoy series with a MOD option. I'd hoped Disney would take a similar approach with their TV properties, but alas they've forgotten Walt's vision to never lose sight of the past while moving towards the future.

A yes! Scooby-Doo Monster Inc. is another example of taking a very old, dated show and turning it into something fresh and interesting while ceeping with the spirit of the oryginal series. Good stuff...
