Does anyone know if once a disney comic is printed in Latin? I know some Tintins and most/all Asterix comics are translated in Latin, so why no disney story?
Robb_K
I don't know of any Disney Comics printed in Latin. But I'd like to get one, IF they exist.
I DO have two interesting special language albums:
One is a Barks album ("Beste Verhalen van Donald Duck" Nr. 7) in Dutch Limburg dialect. and the other is a Barks album in Plattütsch )Hamburger dialect. These would both be of interest to a Dutch speaker, as Hamburger Platt is fairly close to Hollands Taal in the general way. I'd be interested in getting a Disney comic in Frisian (Fries Taal (West or East, or even North dialects), as well as Latin, and any other dead languages.

Frankly, what is/would be the point? I can *almost* see Asterix in Latin simply because of the subject matter.

What's the point? It's fun. At least, some people consider it to be fun. Vir sapiens non urinat in ventum.

I just did a Google search for 'Donaldus Anas' and 'Michaël Musculus' and this came up:

Well, there you go.

Hachette published four Disney books in Latin:

I'm not sure if there are any more (official) Latin publications.

I simply do not understand the significance of translating something into a language for no reason other than to do so. As far as I'm concerned there is no aesthetic purpose to reading a Disney story in Latin?let alone a practical one?unless it were a story originally written with a Latin theme or taking place during that period (i.e. Asterix). Nobody that I know speaks/reads Latin who does not primarily speak his/her native language. So, again, what would be the point?

The significance of that is that some men enjoy it to have that comics in their collection. I'm one of them.

I would actually LOVE to see something like that. And incidentally, Latin is not a dead language by any means. It's very much in use in science and law and is still widely taught in universities. Moreover, it's the official language of Vatican City in Rome. So from its wide usage, it seems that circulating comics in Latin would not only be a novel idea, but actually useful. For one thing, it might inspire students of Latin to brush up on their lessons just so they can read the comics! :)

Someone may want to contact the Klingon Language Institute as well: http://www.kli.org/
But perhaps that ought to be its own topic.

Oh, I learnt that as 'Vir prudent non contra ventum mingit.' But then I haven't got any latin dictionary at hand.

I got a few latin comics: Popejus' one of them, but no Disney.

Klingon is a very minor language, even as artificial languages go. I have some Disney comics in Esperanto, Interlingua, and a MM strip in Volapük, but
no Klingon at all...

.. and for actual natural languages, I suppose north sami and south sami are quite small languages... and I have seen disney comic books in both these languages as well as Faeroese... .. and Disney comics in latin isn't that strange either... I have a copy of Donaldus Anas, and I actually understand quite a lot. ... and as a latin-studies aid it's of course priceless.
