Topic: Was Magica DeSpell ment to be insane in Barks stories?

As many pointed out many times beafore me early Barks Magica (beafore she discoverd the cave of Circe) dosen't have any magical powers, just technical devices or uses things like hypnosis.
Looking how shes obsses about the dimes and ocult powers and all the stories that end with her just screaming and throwing rocks at Scrooge... and just the creepy way Barks draw her in some panels...

Do you think Bars ment for the character to be insane? (as in clinicaly insane)
Debbie
I highly doubt it. I think that Magica's tantrums are meant to show that underneath all of the hocus-pocus trickery, Magica is just as human and fallible as Scrooge and Donald are (and about as temperamental as well). Many of Barks' villains tend to pout or throw tantrums when thwarted, showing the common humanity of both the Ducks and the villains.

Bingo. I remember my teenage self describing Magica to a friend as "basically, if Donald were evil and had magical knowledge." I likened her rage and general bad luck to his.

After she found the cave, the Barks Magica didn't have magic powers, either. She simply got access to some magic wands, potions etc.
