Italy has just started the second series in their Wizards of Mickey saga, titled "The Dark Ages".

I cannot read Italian, but the artwork is very impressive. I would be interested to hear from Italians what they think of this series. Is the story any good?

Hm, I had downloaded them and I think, it looks interesting, but the cover looks better then the story. I can read Italian a little, but I doenst understand the story. The differnt artist are a good idea (there are more drawers, or have I make a mistake??) and I think, this should be worthwhile to look nearer at this stories...

I read (er...saw) the first chapter and this is what I have to say.....MANGA!! This is just like a manga but with Disney characters!!!! :P Seriously though the styles were so similar that it was almost scary. But, that's just my opinion. ;)

The 2 first episodes of the first serie have just been published in France in Mickey Parade Géant.
The drawing is not of my prefered style , but I wouldn't say manga at all. I would rather say a "fast chain style" as if the drawings were made quickly in an industrial mode - even if theses words exceed a little bit my thinking.
Nehertheless, I find the begining of the story quite interesting.
The spirit of this story can be compared to The World of the DrangonLord by Cavazzano.
It's always a bit disturbing to see Disney characters in a non Disney world but in this case I think it's a succes.
I wait for the end of the story to make my absolut opinion.

That's kindof what I ment. The way the action scenes were done and the emotions of the characters made me think of a manga. Sorry for any confusion. :P

I saw that over on INDUCKS once. Weird O_O Do they even read it over there? I have been curious about seeing Disney characters in manga style art-work, never thought that they would use any of Barks' stories. :/

Isn't it a rather surprising move for a disney-distributor to put 10 entire stories online at no cost? I think they might be writing company history!
Now if only I understood a word of italian... ;)

I'm not enough educated in mangas to agree or disagree with you.
For me it's just a sort of quest like many european tales including magic, sorcerers, competition between evil and good forces...

"Wizards of Mickey" is announced to be released on 26th August 2007 in our Polish "MegaGiga" series. The series which is a copy of, e.g. Danish "Jumbo-temabog", so quite soon some of us will have an opportunity to read these stories. It's really nice to have something different from time to time.
Interesting note: this is going to be the first Polish 'only-Mickey' album. Some of the readers will not buy it, though, as they are 'Donald-only' readers. That is a pitty. However, the Publisher seems to approve this ignoring of Mickey by printing only one Mickey comic in "Jumbobog"-like and other magazines. Nevertheless, they ARE printing 'only-Mickey' album. I'm wondering what are they expecting people will do...

If/when this is published in the theme book series here, I will certainly buy it! Mostly they are 95% reprints, but this is all new material. Daring to publish a book with Mickey as title hero also deserves some support. He is sadly underrepresented in our pocket books.
I notice that the only one crying out in horror(?) about Wizards of Mickey being Manga happens to be a North American. The rest of us are quite familar with the current Italian Disney art style, of which the three chapters are good examples. They are not even by far the most remarkably extreme in style. I like Roberto Vian's art best, but I could only find links to the first three chapters. Can you help?
It would be interesting to hear more from others 'over there' who haven't grown accustomed to anything Italian except for Scarpa.

The previous MegaGiga-books have indeed been exact copys of the JT series, so this might indicate, that we will see the Wizards-series in the scandinavian countries too...maybe the polish printing of Wizards will be a kind of test-run for this?

I wasn't crying out in horror just in surprise. I didn't mean that the "art" looked like manga ('cause it doesn't look THAT close) but, the "style" and the way the action scenes and basic setup was very manga-like to me. I may not have read a lot of Italian comics (even though I wish I did) I still love the art style from what I've seen. It's very individual and fun. :)
