But Voracia is just redundant, and she is very far from being a good character. "Scrooge for a Day" is not one of Van Horn's better efforts.

True, but as with Donald, Scrooge and the boys, most artists who came after Barks were faithful to his characterizations. If he had portrayed her differently, so would the European comics.

I've only read Scarpa stories published in the US by Gladstone/Gemstone; I'd love to read the later ones where she's less of a joke and more likable.

There's nothing wrong with the name, I just think it's kind of uninteresting. I mean you have catchy names like Gladstone Gander, Flintheart Glomgold, Glittering Goldie, and the like, and then you have .... Brigitta MacBridge. Even DuckTales did a better job with Webbigail Vanderquack and Mrs. Beakley. If I liked Brigitta a little more maybe I would've felt differently.

Scrooge and Goldie have always struck me as equals ... there's a mutual attraction but they're both too proud and too strong personality-wise to admit it. I prefer Goldie to be in Scrooge's past rather than in his present. Barks had the right idea never using her again after "Back to the Klondike". She's better as an unspoken presence. Having her show up in Scrooge's office to kiss him because his family paid for the trip seems unlike the way Barks portrayed her. Rosa's use of her in "Life of Scrooge" was necessary, but I don't think she should ever appear again in "present day" stories. It cheapens her a bit, IMHO. Goldie is probably the strongest female character Barks created. Let's face it though ... if they were real life characters they would probably have ended up in a bitter divorce.

I don't find Brigitta really that dislikable, and I assume to her favor that it's primarily the man and not the money what she lusts after with respect to Scrooge. In those Brigitta stories, however, I almost always--oh, I virtually always take sides with Scrooge, especially when she is allied with Jubal Pomp. And Scrooge can be really mean to her, and he can take use of unfair methods in his fights--I will still applaud to the old tightwad for a good thump against Brigitta's obtrusion. If Scarpa maybe didn't want to put her up as a gold-digger, he did a good job in portraying her as a dragon.

That is weird. I never heard of Matilda De Spell. Maybe you mean Minima De Spell. I saw her in the Duck Tales comic titled Dime After Dime which I have in Disney Adventures #6 and The Disney Cartoon Tales Duck Tales volume with the same name as the aforementioned story.
