Topic: Boom is now "Kaboom?"

Here. I can't deny, Kaboom is a WAY more hardcore name than dumb ol' regular Boom. And apparently...some sorta Peanuts license? I don't see how anything they could do with Peanuts would be anything but totally redundant, seeing as Fantagraphics already has the whole Complete Peanuts thing going on. Unless they're planning on creating new Peanuts, which is really too ghastly an idea to contemplate. Naturally, all I really care about is that they keep on with the Disney stuff.
There's no further information at this time, so I encourage everyone to speculate wildly and irresponsibly.

It is *supposed* to be this way. As their previous name says, BOOM! Kids -- or now KABOOM! -- is aimed at children, while those Fantagraphics books are collectors' nostalgia editions.

Guess so. I'm having trouble imagining that there's going to be much of an audience here. I know that if I were a kid and knew that the Complete volumes were out there, a smaller, less comprehensive alternative would have seemed pallid and uninteresting by comparison, price issues notwithstanding. But hey, I could be mistaken, and I have no dog in this fight, as long as it doesn't destroy the company.

I think, they will publish small books with Christmas or Halloween specials. I collect the Complete Peanuts (of cause), but still buy some special topic related books. It's nice to read some topic related comics at once. And its always a nice gift for e.g. Christmas, Halloween or Valentines Day. But I don't see a large market there.

Getting OT.
Reprints of DELL/Gold Key Peanuts comic books perhaps? I've never seen any of these. Cover says "All Brand New Stories!". Specifically created for the books?

I really don't want Boom monkeying with Peanuts, unless they're going to be reprinting the Dell books.

I never heard of these Dell books. Did they really contain special stories written by Schulz? I would guess it was just a reprint of the daily strips in color.
GeoX
I seem to recall reading that there are actually some non-Schultz stories in there. Could be interesting for historical reasons, but I have doubts regarding their artistic merit.

The name change makes sense from a business standpoint. I always felt Boom Kids was a name that was a little too restrictive. The main argument being that in a way it almost insults an audience that may in fact not be children. While I have no doubt that this was never the intention, it did tend to have that negative side effect.
As for Peanuts, it really depends on what the actual product consists of. Some combination of the Dell/dailies could be fun, if done right. I think it's aimed at a totally different demo than Fantagraphics, which is focused on the collector/completionist.

They're not bad stories. A couple were actually by Schulz. The rest were drawn by Dale Hale, who worked very closely with Schulz. They're pretty good stories, along the lines of John Stanley's Nancy work.

Here dr. Michael J. Vassallo writes:
Quote:From a variety of sources, I learned that these DELL issues were produced by a crew of artists working for Schulz and who did advertising artwork for him. The main artist was Dale Hale. This information has been confirmed for me by the late comic strip art collector/historian/agent Mark J. Cohen, who was gracious enough to ask Charles M. Schulz over dinner about his contribution to those Dell issues. Mr. Schulz enumerated that he did the very first one himself with Jim Sasseville doing the next few and Dale Hale doing all the rest.
End of OT. Hopefully :)

I really hope they keep publishing the Disney Comics in addition to the Peanuts comics.

Considering they just announced several new products, I think we are okay for a while.
GeoX
Right now, I just want to know why the heck they don't have a new website up yet. Tonight was the night for ordering the new WDC, and now that's not gonna happen. Why do you suddenly announce a change like this without having a new site ready to go?

I don't know Geox. Maybe they don't want to worry unless it's necessary. Gemstone didn't let us know they were going out of business until after Boom bought their license. Who knows what the future will bring.
