Yeah. Ehapa slaps us silly with one Barks edition after the other, and on the motorways we can drive as fast as we want.--Not the worst place to live after all.
Twenty years ago, however, every little village drugstore had its "wall" of Disney comics. It's not like that anymore today. It is evening now, and it will be darkest night tomorrow. Duckburg is doomed. I take it like a man and enjoy the last glow of the setting sun.

Quote from user: GeoXI'm not sure where the closest shop is to me, but it's almost certainly some ways away. I just order my stuff directly from Boom; more convenient, and you can be sure you'll get any variant covers you want.
I'm having a very hard time finding a convenient way to get the regular Boom titles. The postage rates Boom charges basically eliminates it as a viable option. I've tried accumulating books in my account with them to have them shipped in bulk so as save on postage, but then one of the issues goes "out of stock" (can you believe that the regular edition of Uncle Scrooge #400 is already sold out on their site and the next issue hasn't even been released yet?). Subscriptions through Boom are ridiculously expensive ... by my calculation, you'd pay 150% the cover price for a year-long subscription. It's also not practical for me to drive huge distances for these books, and the only comic shop in the area does not carry these titles. The regular titles aren't available on Amazon. I'm looking an online comic book site that might offer subscriptions at a cheaper rate, but haven't found one yet. Does anyone have suggestions?

I used to buy the Gemstone issues from Copacetic Comics in Pittsburgh. They'd send me one package a month with all of the titles, and give me something like a 5% discount off of cover price. Shipping was something like $5, and I'd just get a monthly charge on my credit card. I don't know if they're doing the Boom titles or not, but you may want to give them a shot.

Mile High Comics in Denver and Midtown Comics in NYC have a pretty good online selection.

The first Peanuts title is announced. They don't publish the old Dell books. They seem to create long stories by combining Schulz daily strips. Details and preview pages: http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=31049
Interesting is, that this will be a hardcover book with 80 pages for $19.99.

Schulz never wanted anyone to continue his strip, which is kind of what this is. I'm not okay with it at all.

Yeah, Boom can talk up the rather insignificant Peanuts comic books from the fifties all they want, but this still strikes me as tasteless at best.

Plus, those were done under his supervision while he was alive. Continuing the specials is a concept that I'm fine with, as I question the involvement he had with those after a certain point anyway (regardless of his onscreen credit) but the strip was where he poured his heart, and this is pretty much wrong.

Same feeling here. Schulz strips should be published and that's it.

I may be mistaken, but I don't think this approach is anything new. I seem to recall similar Peanuts collections from my childhood.

No, you are correct. These sorts of collections have existed for years, but Schulz was able to approve the projects. This is not the case this time.

Walt Disney hasn't been around to approve anything in a long time, but that doesn't seem to dampen our enthusiasm for new Disney comics! As long as they're not handing the newspaper strip to hired guns I'm fine with this move.
I work at a bookstore, and I could verify that there are already TONS of kids' books with the Peanuts characters. The only reason we're even talking about this one is because it's from Boom.

For the record, I won't be buying this new book (especially at that price!), but my point is that Boom isn't really breaking new ground. It's not like we're talking Calvin and Hobbes here. Just this week I bought Peanuts brand fruit snacks at the grocery store, and got an ad in the mail for Met Life insurance with Snoopy on the envelope.
It seems to me that Schulz's family is not continuing the newspaper strip according to his wishes, but they're not shy about licensing the characters for other purposes.

I collect more Peanuts stuff than Disney stuff, so I am well aware of the marketing and branding of the characters. I guess I just view the graphic novel as an extension of the newspaper strip itself.

That's sort of how I felt when I first saw the teaser, but to me "graphic novel based on a special based on the comic strip" is on the same level as a children's book or lunchbox or whatever.
I did like the idea of Peanuts strips and Dell reprints in comic book form, though. I wouldn't even mind brand new strips in that format.
