Agree with Mcduck_Enterprises. Not to open this particular can of worms again, but I can ALREADY read just about any Disney comic in digital format. Physical copies are what I want and am willing to pay for.

Most likely it's pre-emptive spin to cover the fact that the Muppet and Pixar lines are being cancelled due to low sales. It'll be branded as some kind of retooling of the line, I'm sure. Boom has been slipping in sales every month, the only hit they have is Darkwing Duck.
I hope Disney realizes how badly Boom has handled these book and has marvel publish them.

Oh yeah. I just can't wait until Marvel gets ahold of the Disney books, and brings the Marvel quality we're all familiar with to them:

I really really can't wait for the story where Mickey and Minnie don't just break up, they're retconned into never having had a relationship in the first place, and Mickey starts dating Magica De Spell.

(Sarcasm, in case anyone didn't pick up on it)

Those sales numbers are for the direct market. It makes sense that the direct market numbers would go down, since direct market customers who want Disney books mostly want nostalgia.

Disney and Boom! are also trying to appeal to kids, and have gotten the books in some bookstores, like Books A Million. Sales numbers for bookstores are usually only available on pay databases. Is there any place where you could look up Publishers' Yearly Statements of Sales?

HA! That's funny. :)

I hate to say it, but I could see it happening. Not so much in the immediate Disney/Marvel characters cross-over cliche that everybody parodies, but I can see Marvel taking the reigns in a few years. I think Disney is just too big for a small publisher. It always has been. In the past, either the publisher failed to keep Disney floating or Disney itself failed out of the comic book market. (mostly due to the early 1990's comics implosion...) I think the last time that Disney books were actually secure with their label and sales was Gold Key.....and most of that stuff, late in its run, was terrible. Don't get me wrong, Gladstone was superb in its 2 times at the wheel, but it only lasted for so long and ultimately passed the torch to a soon-to-fail Gemstone. I can see Marvel at least, taking the imprint.....I think it would actually improve quality of the material and quantity/exposure of Disney comics in general.

Well, Marvel can't do much worse then Boom. Right? Riiiight?

I don't think Boom's doing that bad in terms of quality.

I just think they might not have the rights to reprint most of the really old stuff, like Barks.

And actually, Marvel might actually be able to get Disney comics into more outlets, and actually create magazine-sized comics, like I suggested above. They already have Iron Man and Wolverine magazines on newsstands, and they have a history of publishing magazine-sized comics.

Where is this coming from? Seriously, no joke--WHERE? Is there any grain of truth to it? They HAVE reprinted a half-dozen or so Barks stories, as well as some other older material.

I'm sorry, I should've looked that up.

I can't imagine Mickey dating Magica.
Mcduck_Enterprises
Yeah, I'm pretty sure Marvel would be privy to reprint whatever they want Disney-related....and the problem is not that we need a whole bunch of Barks or even Rosa reprints.....Boom! has been terrible because there is so much else from Egmont and overseas that they could be printing and they're using the bottom of the barrel stuff that is not even the most stimulating to read. My young son even stated the current issues are pretty drab and uninteresting.
The quality makeup of Boom! books is really good. The price is good. The material is dung. A company like Marvel has the means to make it work. They have market research and a span of global influence. If they wanted to, they could blow the lid off of Disney stuff and kill money-wise with it, if they were directly involved. It has been over a year now with Boom!and I can't see this getting any better soon. Boom! doesn't even have a forum where you can suggest or inquire about the material used or issues content.

Agreed about Boom! I think Marvel COULD do an okay job, as long as they respected the brand's legacy and didn't descend into the kind of awful hackwork that Fritz Baugh suggests and that, given their history, seems all-too-plausible.

Do you guys not remember when Marvel did have a Disney license? Ugh! No thanks!
Mcduck_Enterprises
No, I guess I don't recall any of the previous Marvel-affiliated stuff? When was that?
