Boom Studios announced today at the Emerald City Comic Con that they will be publishing a 4 issue series of Darkwing Duck this June.

Let's get dangerous! I used to have a friend I worked with named Dave Winter and I used to call out "when there's touble you call DW,"....... He used to hate that. I am actually going to get these even though I primarily read Scrooge and Donald - I grew up with this show too. Great news!

The word on the street is that Darkwing Duck #1 is a good read, though I haven't had a chance to pick up a copy for myself yet (the nearest comic shop is over an hour away for me, as both of my local shops went out of business.)
Since there's talk of reorders being made available (and an ongoing series was greenlit before #1 even shipped) I can only assume the sales have been good as well.
Hopefully, DW's success will prompt Boom! to look into creating more original material for US audiences, as that's where their real strength is, IMHO. Their Muppets and Pixar books have been very well received, and I think a lot of readers were expecting the same kind of treatment for the Disney standard characters. (not that I want the classic material to disappear, mind you, but a new American Mickey or Scrooge story would be a welcome surprise!)

This issue was easily the best I've seen from Boom! yet, by far! The creative team knows these characters and well.
The story carries just the right amounts of humor the series was known for, coupled with a sort of mature influence one might expect from a creative team that, while adults, definitely cherished these characters in their prime.
And the art/production quality is among the best I have EVER seen in a Disney comic.
Made me greatly happy to read an interview with the artist in which he cites Barks as a huge inspiration as well. It always makes me incredibly happy when the right people are working on the right projects. :)

This is totally anecdotal, of course, but it blew out of the store I shop at in less that two days--and it's probably the heaviest Disney ordering store in the city (It's a big part of why I patronize it :D )
