Quote from user: rodneyI don't think it's a conspiracy. But I do think that the movie isn't nearly as original and clever and people think it is.
Rodney:
The tone of your statement above (by using the word "But", and saying that you DON'T think it is a conspiracy) implies that you STILL take my statements as being opposed to your take on this subject. I mentioned that I DO NOT think it was a conspiracy to make people think the story was stolen from Rosa, and that there must be something to it, because so many people would have no reason to make that up. As I have not seen the film, that is all I have to go on. So, it is clear that I agree with you 100% on that point. So, why would you need to restate your point (that I clearly agree with) that that is the way we see it? I can only conclude that you STILL think I disagree with you.
THEN, you state that you think the movie isn't nearly as original and clever as people think it is (which you had already made perfectly clear in your previous statements). Your use of the word "But" implies that you are saying something different from what I wrote as my opinion. However, anyone can clearly see that I stated that it is likely that the author of "Inception" was, indeed, inspired by Rosa's story, and that, beyond that, he stuck too close to Rosa's storyline. So, why did you feel the need to state your take on the subject yet again?
It seems that you have misinterpreted my statements BOTH times. I am an easy-going person, and virtually never have problems dealing with other people. And, surely the only problem in this case is in decoding semantics. But, I don't like being misrepresented. So, I have to point out that after reading the Internet website's comparison of the two stories, I came to the conclusion that "Inception" 's author may well have based his story on Rosa's, and, furthermore, stuck too close to it.
So please don't continue to lump me into the super-skeptic category, nor the group of people who speak out on subjects about which they are not informed (e.g. had not seen the film).

Quote from user: rodneySeems that a lot of people have noticed similarities between the two. I'd say more folks familiar with both of them say that they're very close to the same than those who feel that they are not (which appears to mostly be Lars and Rob).
Oh for the love of Walt. Read my posts before you comment on them. Or perhaps you simply choose to ignore what I actually wrote.
Jeez.
(Yes, I'm shaking my head in dismay.)
And the fact that a handful of bloggers blog about something they've read about on another blog doesn't mean anything.

The thing that I like most about this situation is that a lot of people who never read a Disney comic since decades or at all read this comic and were surprised how good a Disney comic can be. I read about a dozen of such comments on various websites.

Indeed! Very glad to see such attention given to work that deserves it. A very gratifying change of pace.

??? To which 'situation' are you referring? Hardly anyone who saw the movie would have any knowledge at all of Rosa's "DOAL."

With "situation" I meant that a lot of mainstream movie-related websites wrote about the "The Dream of a Lifetime".

Wow. The LA Times? Really??
This is the most mainstream interest in Duck comics I've seen in... well... forever. If that story were reprinted as a special issue to take advantage of the hype, they'd probably make a mint. ;)

On the premise of it, I'd rather think "Inception" is based on the Japanese movie "Paprika" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0851578/), which is itself in part inspired by the French movie "La Cité des enfants perdus" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112682/). Leave Rosa out of this!

Here is the IMDB plot summary of "Paprika", for those who'd doubt:
Three scientists at the Foundation for Psychiatric Research fail to secure a device they've invented, the D.C. Mini, which allows people to record and watch their dreams. A thief uses the device to enter people's minds, when awake, and distract them with their own dreams and those of others. Chaos ensues. The trio - Chiba, Tokita, and Shima - assisted by a police inspector and by a sprite named Paprika must try to identify the thief as they ward off the thief's attacks on their own psyches. Dreams, reality, and the movies merge, while characters question the limits of science and the wisdom of Big Brother. Written by <(Email removed)>

A comment of Don Rosa himself on that all at the Italian Papersera forum:
Quote:Pertwillaby: (Interesting name...)
>>>>>Mr. Rosa, have you already seen Inception? If not, do you plan to do so?
It sounds like another typical modern American movie with gorgeous but overblown visual effects, brainless action sequences, and characters I wouldn't care about. But I enjoy eye-candy for what it is. I'll probably rent the DVD next year.
I tried browsing all the Internet chatter about the movie being based on or similar to my story, but finally I had to stop reading due to frustration caused by:
?¢How much gross misinformation about the matter is caused by careless people getting factual details wrong, which spreads like a domino effect across the Internet, screwing up all proper data about that story in particular and Donald Duck/Uncle Scrooge comics in general.
?¢How many commentators (virtually all American) have so low regard for comics that they pooh-pooh the very idea as a farce, or don??t bother to investigate any accurate data on the matter.
?¢How many commentators (virtually all American) know nothing about $crooge comics (or that Disney comics even exist) and think this is all about that ??DuckTales? TV series and nothing more.
?¢How many sites show a link to the on-line story which contains no other links to show anyone anything about Disney/Barks/Duck comics or anything else, so that they are getting one iota of info in the midst of a vast desert of ignorance. Also, the site does not give any info about when and how the story was created or published or has appeared. (Or WHO wrote & drew it!)
As for whether the movie swiped ideas from my story, fortunately I don't need to worry about that. That story is not my property -- it belongs to Disney. If they decide to sue the INCEPTION people and make millions more $ off my story, I would not see a cent of it. I'm used to that.
