The relatively small interest in Disney comics of perhaps the greatest creator of all, namely Floyd Gottfredson, is unfortunate and I believe it is mainly due to lack of exposure, at least in the Gemstone english language publications. I enthusiastically purchase the Gemstone Mickey, Donald, Scrooge, and WDC&S regular size comics, but reluctantly buy the Take-Along comics when available. In my opinion, the long stories of the latter have their plot needlessly stretched out and are not particularly entertaining.
As I recall, David Gerstein (the Archival Editor for Gemstone) wrote an article or message in which he detailed which of the Gottfredson newspaper stories have been/not been republished in comics. The stories are fairly long but of various lengths, and I am sure David is familiar with their extent. Gladstone produced large size album trade paper backs with stories by Gottfredson and others, but I gather they were not big sellers compared to the regular size comics. However, Gemstone now with their Take-Along comics have a format which should be quite suitable to many of the Gottfredson stories. I would hope the Gary Leach would take note and maybe start the ball rolling to use that format to reintroduce us to the great Gottfredson stories.

- Boca Mole (Fliplip) is a slang for "Talkative"
- Comprido (Sidney) means "Long","Tall"
- Robopato (Gizmoduck) means "Robot-Duck"
- Lampadinha (Gyro's Helper) means "Little Light Bulb"
- Urtigao (Hard Haid Moe) means "Big Nettle"
- Ted Tampinha (Idgit the Midget) means "Ted the Shorty"
- Kid Monius (Dangerous Dan McBoo) is a play-on-words that sounds
like "What-the-Devil"
- James Scond (James Ding) is a play-on-words with "James Bond"
that sounds like "James Hides"
- Grilo Falante (Jiminy Cricket) means "Talking Cricket"
- Silva (Neighbour Jones) is a very common Brazilian surname (like "Smith"
in English).
- Banze (Scamp) means "Uproar"
- Biquinho (Fethry's nephew) means "Little Beak"

before Scrooge had a TV series and with the cooperation of McDuck
creator Carl Barks, I have never given up hope of illustrating an
edition with Barks panels in spite of Disney's refusals to date. With
the upsurge in interest over McDuck thanks to the TV series we'll get
a new edition out at some point. I offered it to Another
Rainbow/Gladstone but they decided it wasn't big enough for them. If I
can find someone else to distribute, a new edition is not out of the
question.

As far as I know, this was one of the first publications to
chronologically list Carl Barks Uncle $crooge life. Jack was also a
damned good author :) I will miss him greatly.

My 13 year old grandson loves art and wants to one day work in the animation
field. When his junior high school class was asked to write reports for
Black History week on someone they admired, he didn't want to write about
the same Black heroes that most kids write about. He decided to write about
someone who worked in animation; and he chose Floyd Norman.

He said that Mr. Norman worked at Walt Disney years ago. He has books from
the library but is looking for material that he could use with his report.
e.g. picture of Mr. Norman, a picture of animated characters that he drew,
anything that would help him bring his report to life and capture the
essence of who Mr. Norman is and his accomplishments in the field of
animation. Can you help guide us to resources that could help. His report
is due next week so a reply back quickly would help.

I would normally be tempted to agree, but we've been mising out on
Gottfredson for so long that its almost a case of beggars cant be choosers.
^^; If it meant maybe 2 sideways strips on a small page I'd gladly take that
over no strips at all.

What I would REALLY like to see however are the longer old school Romano
Scarpa stories that we never got back in the day printed in MMA and DDA. I"m
honestly surprised Gemstone hasnt printed any considering how they teased us
with them on occasion during the end of thier Gladstone run and the middle
of the second run. All those stories (Gottfredson and Scarpa), considering
the sheer length of some of them, would be PERFECT for the MMA/DDA format.
Not to say I dont like the current stuff we're getting there cause some of
its cool, but I think a lot of it is a balancing act, know where to put
stories and when to put them there etc etc etc
