Shonen Jump is, specific to the discussion here, a monthly
squarebound newsstand periodical published in the US by VIZ Media
cover-priced at $4.99 US ($7.99 CAN). It's current page count is 344,
and the main section is devoted to an anthology of chapters of manga
series translated and adapted into English and printed in black-and-
white (there are color sections in the front and back mostly given
over to marketing).
Many, if not most, of the series that run in Shonen Jump are
eventually collected by VIZ into graphic novels for the retail
market. These are at a smaller trim size, run about 200 black-and-
white pages (the only color is on the covers), with cover prices of
$7.99 or $9.99 US.
VIZ, one of the first manga-specific US publishers, started out in 32-
page black-and-white comics, but dropped that format a few years ago.

As I have mentioned earlier in some European countries there are
facsimile (scanned) hardcover books that contain the early Disney comics
exactly as they first were printed.
I would love it if Gemstone did this with WDC.
What do you people on this list think about this ?

Elaine, thanks again for your comments. I am very happy to hear that while you like a mix of new and reprint stories, that you would support a totally reprint devoted title *and* titles devoted totally to new stories.
I also agree that I want Gemstone to produce MORE! I think there are so many possibilities! Not only am I OK with more material being presented in a TPB format, but I actually would *like* more presented in such a format. I know this is just a pipe dream of mine, but imagine a monthly TPB title from Gemstone! It would have more pages than 2 prestige titles together, and yet not cost much more than 2 prestige titles.
One thing I hope to see in a TPB format are Gottfredson's Mouse stories. It is nice they are being reprinted in WDC&S stories now, but I must admit I still do not like stories being in 3 or 4 different issues. Hopefully after the Foreign Legion story and "The Gleam", Gemstone could switch Gottfredson stories to some nice TPBs. That way they could be presented all in one piece.
I just think the possibilities are almost endless for Gemstone with TPBs, archival editions, etc. Not only do I hope for Barks and Gottfredson libraries, I would love to see Rosa, Van Horn, etc. ones as well. I agree with you totally Elaine in wanting some TPBs or even hardcover "Hall of Fame" collections of Don Rosa's stories. I can't imagine these not being among the most marketable items Gemstone could produce. I also love the idea of a volume of Rosa's cover art, pin-ups, etc. I would definitely buy such a collection.
Thanks to Anthony, BJ, and others for voicing their support for a 3rd prestige title! I agree with Anthony that Donald Duck and Friends would be the wisest choice for a 3rd prestige title. Donald Duck sells better than Mickey Mouse, plus you could keep the nice long history and numbering with such a title. And of course it could have Mouse stories in it as well.
I (again) encourage anybody on the ML who would like to see a 3rd monthly prestige title to please voice your desire for it here! You don't have to write a lot or in any detail. Just a one sentence post of support for such a 3rd title would help a lot! Hopefully more and more people here on the ML expressing a desire for a third title will show Gemstone what a great idea it is!

Hey everyone,
I just want to say thanks to the kind words with regards to my recent
email. I really hope that we do see a "Donald Duck" prestige title soon. There
seems to be a market for it, based on this list alone!
However, I also wanted to bring something else to Gary and this list's
attention that I just noticed today. In celebration of Scrooge McDuck's 60th
Anniversary, Don Rosa is doing 12 spectacular posters. Go to this link for a

Two quick questions. One, is it possible that one of the projects with several to numerous volumes could be a Barks and/or Rosa Library? I think that we be a great idea to say the least!

With the talk of facsimile issues (if that were to
happen) and our overseas friends needing issues
shipped to them, an article that appeared in the
latest issue of Linn's Stamp News, which I receive for
my other hobby of stamp collecting, will be of
eye-opening interest. In an effort to "simplify" its
services and eliminate "marginal" classes of mail, the
Postal Service will drop all international surface
mail, including parcel post. In this case, surface
mail from the US reportedly still has 2.4 million
pieces per year, but that's evidently a drop in the
bucket of a total of 1 billion pieces that the US
Postal Service handles each year. This change will
cost those of us who mail books, which rapidly pile up
in weight, very dearly in airmail charges. Which are
also going up by the way. What added insult to injury
in the article was that the Postal Service
representative suggested that if the airmail charges
were unacceptable that the sender simply forward the
money to the recipient so that the items could be
purchased in their country. Hello, what was she
smoking!!!!!! If the items were available in the
country of the recipient, would we go to the expense
of mailing them something already available. I swear
these people dont use the brain that God gave them. I
so want to contact the rep to "enlighten" her.
Obviously, she doesn't mail anything overseas.
Anyway, for those of us on this side of the pond, I
suggest we find out who's on the committee that
oversees the Postal Service and lobby them on behalf
of ourselves and our friends. I know that the Postal
Service is only a "quasi-governmental agency, but I
have a real problem with classes of mail that still
have volume in the millions being eliminated
wholesale, especially when I would guess a substantial
amount of it is involved in individual transactions.
