A preview for Mickey Mouse and Friends #296 can now be found at http://www.newsarama.com/php/multimedia/album.php?aid=30995 .

The comic looks better than I expected. Not a classic Disney one, but worth a look. Is there any chance to get this book in Europe?

Still not sure how I'm feeling about this. I'm surprised that Boom didn't recolor the books like Gemstone, surprised at the straightforward translation of the material and surprised by the choice to serialize such a long story in Mickey's flagship title as opposed to running shorter, more traditional stories and saving the epics for a collected volume.
It's kind of like a shorter Mickey Mouse Adventures.
We'll see what happens, though. The covers are gorgeous, and we are finally getting Wizards of Mickey in the USA, so I can't grouse *too* much. ;)

During the Gladstone era, dealers or individuals in Europe bought Gladstone comics and books in bulk, had them shipped to their address in Europe, and from there, distributed them to individual European collectors. I'm sure they could, at least, do that again, as long as they are willing to cover Boom!'s shipping costs.

Which Gladstone Era are you talking about Robb? The First one or The Second one? I think they did a good job on the cover of Mickey Mouse and Friends. However I do agree with Kneon that they should have put the story in the form of a TPB and save the regular comic books for shorter stories.

In Germany they publish this stories in books with over 260 pages each: http://www.lustige-taschenbuecher.de/ltb-katalog-collection-1.html

Nice to see that Mickey is at least allowed as a "wizard" to choose between different belts after it has been Egmont's raiment policy for quite a time now to let that fellow only act half-naked ... ;)

I read over here that there are now three lengthy Wizards of Mickey series, correct?

And the first part alone will take about a year to serialize. So are we looking at several YEARS of WoM in Mickey Mouse and Friends, and if so, why not just call the book "Wizards of Mickey"...?

And here come some reviews...

I will point out that this issue seems to be getting much more press than what Gemstone's books got, but will the novelty wear off...?

As opposed to Donald Duck who is always fully dressed, of course. :)

The first WoM story is 266 pages, yes. 268, if you include a 2-page summary that the Italians produced for Topolino 2657. And the second is indeed 288 pages.

But after that the stories are more manageable: 41 pages, 51 pages, 67 pages etc.

Wow. I still say collected volumes would've been the way to go with WoM, with smaller stand-alone stories filling the monthlies. But I'm not in charge. ;)

They've already announced at least one collected volume, if that's the way some would rather go.

Meanwhile the first issue actually turns out to be a 32-pager, not a 24-pager, so at least the initial chapter of the story is published more or less as it originally ran in Italy.

That's good that they're already planning collected volumes. Seems to be the norm for Boom Kids, and I'll wait just for that. (I just don't buy pamphlet comics anymore because they're a pain to take care of!)

I asked my local comic shop about these items. They can't get them, because the distributor (Diamond) won't ship them outside the United States. So I guess that no other comic shops in Europe can get them either.

It seems that you can order the issues directly from Boom at http://www.boom-studios.net/ but the shipping is high. The cover price is $3, and if you want to know the price including shipping, you multiply the cover price by 6 to get an approximate answer. But it seems that you can order about 10 issues without the shipping becoming any higher, so I guess an option could be to make a big order twice a year. Or several people could order some issues and share the shipping costs and redistribute the issues once they've reached Europe.

They also have a subscription offer. There are two different cover variations: cover A and cover B. If you only want one cover variation, you pay $40. If you want both, you pay $60. And that's for just 5 issues, so it's quite bad in my opinion.

For example: MM+Friends (cover "A"):
