WB, LadyQ opened with "As I write this, the fate of my country will be decided by the end of November 4..." Indeed, certain things trump even Disney comics. I understand that LadyQ wasn't suggesting scribbling "Mickey Mouse" on one's ballot. But the fate of *my* country is not a matter over which I'm able to "chill out," not while we finally teeter at the precipice like Frodo and Sam at the end of a too-long journey. America will be transformed?for better or for worse?and thus will the world be as well. Tomorrow it will be done. And tomorrow half of America will be jubilant while half will be in mourning?and perhaps so for at least four more years when yet a new hope will emerge. Yes, "it is the doom of men that they forget"?but come tomorrow, many will wish they could.

Well, I was actually being a little flippant, MQ, when I opened the topic with that statement---and I suppose I should have explained that so it wouldn't be taken too seriously. After all, people at a forum can't see a person or hear the tone of their voice, and they certainly can't read minds.

But I'd like to add that not everyone thrives on conflict or controversy, and I'm one such person; with that in mind, knowing what a hot-button issue politics can be anyway, I made a point of requesting that the thread be taken in the spirit of fun it was meant to be, and not used for political arguments of any kind. For pity's sake, we get enough of those everywhere else. :)

Moving on, then...so how about those Phillies? ;)

Oh I would most definitely vote for Scrooge McDuck! I thought he made a pretty fun monarch in Don Rosa's "His Majesty, McDuck"
As for Donald, it seems like every story where he is given any sort of responsibility, he tends to really screw things up, so he would be a pretty awful president.

Great answers, Scroodude! :) Though if Scroogey could be Prez, he'd certainly put the kibosh on all that government over-spending. I shudder to think of what he'd do with our taxes, however... :)

Actually, the day may yet come when a foreign-born U.S. resident can become President: they're working on an amendment to the Constitution that allows a non-naturalized citizen to run for President if he/she has been in the States for at least 20 years. So Scroogey would definitely qualify, though Grandma does sound like the best choice. :D

Well, since the President doesn't get to keep the money from taxes for himself, my guess is he would want to *lower* taxes to stimulate consumer spending?especially since he's known to be a mega-Capitalist, and everyone knows that Capitalists fundamentally don't believe in taxes.

Perhaps this will eventually come to pass, but I doubt very much it would be within Scrooge's lifetime since he's "presently" in... what, his 70s or 80s?

I would definitely vote for a McDuck/Gearloose ticket!
Arnold Schwarzenegger is one of the big activists for a change allowing naturalised citizens to run for president (so he can run, no doubt). Uncle

Scrooge was born in the early 1870s, so, he's about 135-138 years old. He must be dead already. Donald was already at least 17-18 in 1934, so he's in his 90s. Huey, Dewey and Louie were already about 6-7 years old in 1938, so they are about 70.

I guess a dead duck wouldbe better than George Bush Jr., but I'm not sure I'd vote for him over The Democrats (although they've also been disappointing over the past 40 years or so.

When there was presidential election going on in Finland february 2000, Finnish Aku Ankka (Donald Duck) comic book had it's own electoral campaign (Mayor for Duckburg) on it's pages. Many Duckburgians were candidate and some of them had slight resemblance with actual Finnish presidential candidates, thanks to skillful artist of ours Kari Korhonen. Readers then voted whom they pleased. I Should check closer for candidates and results.

McScrooge and McCain are both Mc's at least. :)

Perhaps I should vote for Fungus Enzyme. (Barks' story A Campaign of Note is nice story about elections and campaigns)
