Great job with the tree :)
I wish one day somebody will make "Magica family reunion" story... ;)

Hey, what computer program <i>are</i> you using? It looks pretty neat

I'm just using PowerPoint to constuct the tree, as it's very easy to use (although not very professional, of course). But increasing the size of one slide can only be done if I would actually decrease the size of all the images in the tree, which is a kind of difficult task now that there are so much images.

I note that in D 2012-068, A Treasure for Sure, published recently in Super Picsou Geant 179, the Junior Woodchucks and Scrooge go back in time and encounter a female pirate ancestor of Magica. I haven't seen this story, so I can't tell you her name or anything--is she one of the ancestors you already have included?

Great job on the new version of the DeSpell family tree Scroogello. It looks awesome. I believe that you forgot to add Morgana DeSpell from the story "Be It Ever So Humble" to the list of ancestors. There is a picture of her on Inducks. It isn't great, but someone else could provide a better scan from that story. Have you considered using Adobe Reader to make the DeSpell family tree. That's what Giles Maurice used for a version of Donald Duck family tree, and that works great for me. Btw, what story does Amalia DeSpell appear in?
To Matilda - I have managed to come across a copy of Super Picsou Geant 179. I have noticed three potential relatives from two different stories in this comic. The first ancestor appears in a story called "Moby Dick: La Baleine Blanche". She is a pirate sorceress who goes by the name of Tralalah. I don't believe they mention her last name, but I'm assuming it is DeSpell. In the second story (the one I think you meant) Scrooge & his nephews go back in time and meet a female pirate ancestor of Magica's named Fantasma DeSpell. It appears that Fantasma is in love with a man named Fred the Prancing (pretty sure that translation is correct). From the story it seems safe to assume that Fantasma marries Fred. I will try to upload pictures from these stories tomorrow.

Here as some pictures from the story "Moby Dick: La Baleine Blanche" as promised.
Tralalah makes her first appearance in the story. She warns Moby Dick that he will find what he is only looking for, only to lose it again. http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab207/sapphire_striker/DeSpell%20Family/tralalah1.jpg
In this next scene, Tralalah reveals that she is a sorceress who wants Moby Dick's lucky coin. If I understand correctly, I believe it to supposed to the first coin Midas ever made. http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab207/sapphire_striker/DeSpell%20Family/tralalah2.jpg
A close up of part of the same scenes. Just because I think these scenes are pretty awesome. http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab207/sapphire_striker/DeSpell%20Family/tralalah3.jpg

And, also as promised, some pictures from the "Voyage Dans Le Temps: Prisonniers Des Pirates!".
In this scene, Scrooge & the boys meet Magica's ancestor, but the boys mistake her for Miss Tick/Magica. She explains that she is looking for Captain Kidd, because he stole something from her. http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab207/sapphire_striker/DeSpell%20Family/fantasma1.jpg
In this next scene, the pirate working for Fantasma, reveals her name. http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab207/sapphire_striker/DeSpell%20Family/fantasma2.jpg
Fantasma beats Captain Kidd with a foof bomb instead of a sword. http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab207/sapphire_striker/DeSpell%20Family/fantasma4.jpg
The treasure has been discovered, but Scrooge is more interested in a spell book that belongs to Fantasma. http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab207/sapphire_striker/DeSpell%20Family/fantasma5.jpg
Fantasma explains how she got the spell book. http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab207/sapphire_striker/DeSpell%20Family/fantasma6.jpg
Fantasma made the mistake of reading a spell aloud and Fred the Prancing was turned into a pig man, which Fantasma was very upset about. And as it turns out, Scrooge was really Magica in disguise. http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab207/sapphire_striker/DeSpell%20Family/fantasma7.jpg
Magica introduces herself to Fantasma. Fantasma claims she doesn't want kids, lol. Magica explains that she came back in time to get Fantasma's spell book. http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab207/sapphire_striker/DeSpell%20Family/fantasma8.jpg
Magica snatches the spell book, but Fantasma isn't going to just let Magica have it. http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab207/sapphire_striker/DeSpell%20Family/fantasma9.jpg
Fantasma misses with her sword and tries to use a foof bomb on Magica. It misses, but turns Fred the Prancing back to normal. Fantasma gets the book again, but it isn't the book she wants. It is the Junior Woodchuck Guidebook. http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab207/sapphire_striker/DeSpell%20Family/fantasma10.jpg
Fantasma is mad, but Fred tries to comfort her. The boys take Magica back to the present. The brats, er boys, give the spell book to the proper authority. A steamed Magica runs off. http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab207/sapphire_striker/DeSpell%20Family/fantasma11.jpg

Thanks very much for all the scans and information given about Magica's ancestors! I'll include them in the tree as soon as I can.

Thanks! And yeah, I totally forgot about Morgana. I'll include her in the tree when I update it again.

Using Adobe Reader, it's difficult to show the tree on the forum. In addition, I've never used it before, and I think the tree would look pretty messy if I would use that programme. Maybe I'll use Adobe Reader when I'm a bit more skilled at it.
Quote from user: ScroogefanBtw, what story does Amalia DeSpell appear in?
She appears in http://coa.inducks.org/story.php?c=I+TL+1940-C , in which she's said to be Magica's great-great-great grandmother (in the Dutch version). She lives in a cottage until she accidentally invents a hammer that has the same ability as king Midas (golden touch-style). She becomes very rich and eventually she becomes the rival of Scrooge's ancestor. I used her German name in the tree, as her Dutch name was just 'Magica'.

You're quite welcome Scroogerello. I'm glad to help if I can.

Is there anybody on the forum who could tell me more abou Magica's uncle Gianni from http://coa.inducks.org/story.php?c=I+TL+3035-5 , whom I mentoined in an earlier post? It's a pity that the story was only published once, although in a recent edition (Topolino (libretto) # 3035).
Scroogefan
I did manage to find a copy of Topolino 3035. I got some of pictures of Magica's Uncle Gianni (or Uncle John, according to google translate).
Here is the story about Uncle Gianni - Little Magica is visiting with her Uncle Gianni and being his assistant one evening. Apparently he is kind of like a sailor or fisherman. What he mainly does is he takes these crystals called Transluna crystals and charges them in the moonlight. Once the crystals are charged you can use them to transport anywhere in the world. So once they are fully charged, Uncle Gianni sells them to magic shops.
Then we cut to the main story, which I will briefly summarize. Present day Magica is buying one of the Transluna crystals. She tries to use it on Scrooge to send him to a deserted island, but accidentally sends herself along with him. Scrooge & Magica are trapped on a deserted island together. Magica has some flashbacks and I think possibly tells Scrooge about some of them. Then Magica remembers that they can find Transluna crystals on the island (Convenient, right? They need another crystal because one crystal equals a one way trip). So after overcoming some obstacles, Magica & Scrooge find a new crystal. Magica charges it in the moonlight and then she & Scrooge transport back to Duckburg.
There is another flashback of young Magica with Uncle Gianni. Uncle Gianni gives Magica a Transluna crystal, but makes her promise never to use them for evil. Young Magica promises to be a good witch. Of course we all know how that turns out, lol. There are a few more scenes of Magica & Scrooge thinking back fondly to their time on the island together. Implying that perhaps they don't think of each other as just bitter enemies.
Here are some pictures of young Magica and Uncle Gianni from the story. http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab207/sapphire_striker/DeSpell%20Family/unclegianni1.jpg

Mr. M
Thanks for the picture :)
So Magica has a pirate ancestor and at least two sailors/fisherman in the older generation... It's fun how all the pieces fit ;)
Scroogerello
Thanks a lot for the scans, Scroogefan! Very interesting that Magica's uncle isn't a Duck at all! This will make it harder for me to place him on the tree, though, as all of Magica's uncles/aunts/grandparents are ducks. Maybe he could be Caraldina's husband? Or Grandpa De Spell's brother? (although that would make him Magica's great-uncle and not her direct uncle).
Scroogefan
Again, you are very welcome Scroogerello. I think that family trees of characters like Magica, Glomgold, Brigitta and Rockerduck are fascinating. Because these characters make regular appearances in the comics, but we don't know very much about their families. Whereas main characters like Mickey, Donald, Goofy and Scrooge have very extensive family trees.
Yes, I would say that Uncle Gianni is probably a pelican or seagull. I suppose that he could work as being Caraldina's husband or Grandpa De Spell's brother. This is another of those instances where we are given as little information as possible. It could even be that he is an adopted uncle and not officially part of the family. Like how children tend to sometimes refer to family friends as aunt or uncle.
To Mr. M - It is interesting, isn't it? I noticed that too.
I have noticed something else interesting as well - that many of Magica's female ancestors kept their last name. This is interesting because in the old days when women got married it was common for them to take their husband's last name. In this case the women in the De Spell family tree seem to keep their last name. Passing the name down from mother to daughter. And it seems like the men they marry either don't have last names, or their last names aren't provided. Perhaps the men take the De Spell family name when they marry into the family?
Mickey
Beautiful tree! Thanks! But Caraldina is Granny de Spell!
