I empathize with you re: Gladstone's brother, Robb. Rosa's tree is by far my favorite, and I respect the power it had in cleaning up the various contradictory explanations for how the Ducks are related - it's the reason, for instance, that you never see Grandma as Don's aunt anymore - but as much as I like it, it should NOT be that much of a restriction on other writers, especially now that Rosa's retired.

You know Gladstone's brother could be an interesting character. His rivalry with Donald is bad enough, but just for a moment imagine. If Gladstone Gander, the luckiest and most insufferable gander in the world, was your brother.

We'd have been given a 10-foot pole to put between us, plus restraining orders from the courts. "Twins murder each other" read all about it!

Quote from user: Dutch Duckfan Down UnderI have heard on the Dutch McDrake forum that this week's Donald Duck weekly, celebrating our fowl's eightieth birthday, contains a story which finally explains whatever happened to Della. How topical.
I haven't been able to get my hands on it, yet.
Is this a comic story or a text piece? Would you mind posting a synopsis of Della's fate according to this story, when you read it?

It's a comic story. I'm afraid I can't tell you what else happens, because I don't own it! This particular story was published in a subscribers-only booklet inside the comic. The comics sent to newsstands didn't have this in it, and I don't have a subscription.

There is a story that actually tells what happens to Della? I thought Disney would not allow that kind of story to be published.

For those who want to know, some helpful person left a synopsis of the story on this blog post. It's reasonably clever, though also, perhaps inevitably, a little anti-climactic.

Thanks for the link. As I feared, this explanation's unlikely to satisfy most of us here on this forum. It strikes me as a little too fantastic, overly saccharine-sweet and aimed at the very young. Nevertheless, it's remarkable that it was even allowed, since there's always been an unofficial embargo on discussing the missing Duck parents. I'm curious to see how Della was drawn; hopefully someone will be able to post a scan or two soon. I also wonder if HD&L's father was mentioned in any way.

I assume that the "unofficial embargo on discussing the missing Duck parents" was due to the assumption that you couldn't avoid their being either (a) dead or (b) reprehensible. Putting a Duck parent in outer space explains how s/he could be completely unreachable without being a no-good. Probably the *only* way to achieve that, in a contemporary setting. Presumably the solution Rosa imagines, whatever it is, that involves HDL's parents having been stranded in the vicinity of Tralla La, could work as well, in the 1950's Duckworld when there were still inaccessible parts of Earth's surface. Though the story in question (spoiler alert!) does additionally manage to avoid parental distress at the separation by near-light-speed time-distortion.

This are a few scans of Della from the story (the panels don't follow each other in the comics; these are just a few panels that represent Della's story very clearly).

On Della's INDUCKS gallery, another scan from the story can be seen: http://coa.inducks.org/character.php?c=Della%20Duck&view=2
Della's husband wasn't mentoined or seen throughout the story. What I really like about the story is that it finally shows Della's character and made it interesting by adding the whole story about her being a pilot.

OK, I seriously want to have a copy of this story, and I don't want to wait until it comes out in French. Any of you Dutch folks know how I might possibly get hold of a copy of this issue? I'd be willing to pay generously for shipping et al.
I realize from the synopsis on GeoX's website (spoiler alert) that I won't go along with the main storyline (comic characters stay young, Donald is *actually* 80 years old!), but I like the depiction of Della as a test pilot and the clever use of the near-light-speed time-distortion to keep her unaware of how long she has left the kids with Donald.

...I like it. It gives her a noble reason to be out of her kids' lives - a brave pilot is definitely better than a deadbeat mom - and the time dilation in space leaving her with no idea how long she's been gone ads an element of tragedy to it, as well.
