Wow! Digicomics will publish "Mickey Mouse and the sword of ice"! A masterpiece! Good job! I hope they will publish Mickey Mouse time machine's stories too! Zapotec and Marlin are some of my favourite characters!

Well, now I see screenshots, this doesn't look half bad! (except maybe the content...High School Musical comic? Eeeewww...They're putting that instead of Darkwing Duck or Rescue Rangers?? You've got to be kidding me.)
But I would gladly buy the Mickey/Donald classics on there IF I had an Ipod/Ipad/IWhatever. But I've never bought anything from Apple, and most likely never will (way too expensive)
One thing I don't understand : if their concern about not doing an application that runs on any computer is because of piracy issues, then why are they releasing it on the IPad if anyone CAN do screenshots and post it wherever they want?
I mean, come on. Doing an application for regular computers would bring 10 times more the number of interested customers. Do they forget the people (like me) who owns a netbook, which basically works the same way as an IPad? (I mean, screen size, resolution and portability)

Quote from user: JanoThis is getting ridiculous ... they now have version 1.1 out which is said to restore previous purchases ...
Quote:Are you a Disney Digicomics 1.0 user?
Don??t worry! Comics previously purchased in Disney Digicomics 1.0 can be downloaded again for free if: You still have Disney Digicomics 1.0 installed on device. You??re using the same device on which you initially purchased the comics in Disney Digicomics 1.0.
This obviously isn't supposed to work with the "restore purchases" function, because this one says:
Quote:Purchase History: In this section you can find your comics purchase history as well as your free comics downloads. Click on ??Restore Purchase?? button to re-download for free all the comics you previously purchased with your account in the new Disney Comics app on any iOS device you own (iPod, iPad, or iPod touch), or after reinstalling the application.
Ok, so they're saying you need to find every story again in the store and manually re-download it?
Problem 1: How the heck are you supposed to find the stories if they have absolutely NO search function of any kind and not even a feature to browse through stories by character, theme, A-Z, or whatever. You can only click on "featured", where there's nothing to see but ad buttons for Tangled, "Top 25" and "New", with the latter one showing not much else than the "Top 25" tab.
Problem 2: Well, I finally found a "Superduck" story I had previously purchased on the Digicomics app. But... It doesn't work. When you click on the buy button you don't get a message telling you that you've already bought the story and can download it again, but you're billed the full price listed.
And that's what they've worked on for over a year?
I haven't been able to get it to work either.
I also tried writing them to ask about the situation, as I have several I'd purchased on the original app, but haven't gotten a response yet even though it's been nearing two weeks.

I tried this on my iPad and it looks great. It is much better than the small iPhone version. I agree that the app needs some work and I would like to see a larger variety of stories, including Barks, Rosa and Egmont.
I always thought that I would never ever prefer digital comics over ones on paper, but having them on a tablet about the same size as a comic book is very nice indeed. I don't miss physical music CDs or printed photos. I am only reading books on my Kindle lately, and with Netflix and Hulu I am only streaming movies and TV shows instead of buying DVDs in the store. Why would comics be any different? I moved twice in the last 3 years and the one thing I hated the most was packing up my thousands of pounds of comic books. It is backbreaking. How amazing it would be to have all my favorite stories in digital format on a tablet and being able to look one up in a few seconds.

I agree. I didn't like reading long articles on a computer screen, but the iPad changed that. Now I read mags on the tablet and even have subscriptions digital.
Reading comics on the iPad would be great. But the current selection is small and not really my kind of stories. I dream to have my printed collection digital. It would be great to look stories up within seconds. But I would not sell my printed books. A digital copy would be the best.

I would get rid of a lot of printed comics if I could replace them with digital copies, but keep my favorite ones. If you already own a comic on paper you should be able to buy the digital version at a discounted price. That would be nice.
I look forward to Fantagraphics' Barks collection, but it'll be 15 years before they finish the series. I wonder if it'll last that long. So much has changed in the last 15 years with digitization of media. Already Amazon is selling more Kindle books than regular books, and other printed media is having a hard time too. Will people still be buying these Barks books in 10 to 15 years? It would be cool if Fantagraphics came out with an iPad version each time a new book is released. I would buy that instead. But then again, will iPads still be around in 15 years? We'll probably be reading on paper-thin tablets by then.

I WILL! (as long as I am alive and can see)! And have the money (not being a beggar in the street. "Kind Sir, can you spare a dime for a poor old man? I'm trying to save up for the next issue of "The Carl Barks Collection"!

I think real books will allways have value over those e-book things. It's nice to have them portable, but the real deal will allways be print for me.

There will be always printed books, especially hardcovers. Perhaps the paperbacks will be replaced with digital copies.
That's the same with CDs and DVD/Blu-Rays. If I really like the movie or music I want to own it on a disc and have it on my shelf. Other people must think the same. There are many high price collectors editions in the shops. So some people buy the movie as a download for $5, some still on disc for $10 and some as as collectors edition for $50.

I would think it's the opposite : digital is better for being the thing you get regularly but may not last for long, while paperbacks/hardcovers are the "collector" things that you want to keep forever.

For me hardcovers are a collector edition. Mags and paperbacks don't last long on an ordinary shelf.
BTW: I bags all my comic mags last weekend :)

I think of it that way now too, but I would have said the same about photos 15 years ago. I wouldn't have imagined that I wouldn't have any printed photographs anymore. When I got my first digital camera about 10 years ago I would still print out some of the nice pictures, but not for a long time. I don't look at old photo albums because I can find all my pictures much easier on my computer.
Just a couple of years ago I was still buying DVD's and collector's editions, now they are just catching dust on my shelf and I only watch online. In fact, there have been several times when I wanted to watch a movie or TV show that I owned on a disc and was available to me streaming, and I always go for streaming because it's so much more convenient. I can imagine the same with comic books, especially as in the next years tablets will become even thinner, lighter and sharper.

It'll work with itunes, right?
If so, I hope I can read a lot of these Donald Duck Comics on there, English or not.
