Quote from user: MatildaQuote from user: SimHow are Duncan McDuck (D 8824) and Ringtail Van Dukke (H 88041) related to Scrooge?

Sim

And speaking of Duncans, D 8824 features Cousin Bruce McDuck, not a Duncan, right? (Sorry if I'm the one getting confused, here...)

Are you interested in other ghost/ancestors? In Guido Martina's The Ghost's Castle (I TL 1326 A), there is an ancestor of Scrooge named in Italian (according to the Italian summary on INDUCKS) Gideon McPaper, and in German (that's what I have) Gideon McDuck--which is interesting, because Scrooge's last name in German is Duck, not McDuck! Apparently they want you to think that Scrooge dropped the "Mc" in America.... No relationship to Scrooge is specified; Gideon lived at the time of Mary, Queen of Scots, and Queen Elizabeth I of England.

You are right, Duncan is from H 86230.

Thank you, I didn't know about Gideon.

Quote from user: Dutch Duckfan Down UnderQuote from user: SimAnd how has been "mijn verre oud-achterneef" translated in USA?
Thank you. :)

A "verre oud-achterneef" would be a "distant great-cousin once removed".

I tried to put him in the tree with this relation, but he would be in Quackmore's generation (and his nephews in Donald's)! And I checked, that's the same relation Ludwig has with Don!

Look at it by yourself:

According to the I.N.D.U.C.K.S, in W DD 114-05, a Mel Mallard appears. Is he aunt Tizzy's husband? Is he related to Duck Family? What about Mel Mallard in DuckTales (or was it QuackPack?)?

He's an old schoolmate of Donald's.

I see. The problem is, "verre oud-achterneef" isn't a real term and can be interpreted in many ways. If he's a distant cousin, I think he might be a cousin of an ancestor of Donald who lived in pirate times.

In H 95043, another relative comes out: Ignatius Verwoerd.
According to the Dutch version, he is Scrooge's "bet-achter-oudoom"... In your opinion, is "Great-great-granduncle" good enough?

Quote from user: MatildaQuote from user: SimQuote from user: Dutch Duckfan Down UnderIn I TL 1988-E, Scrooge endlessly tries to make Donald more thrifty. As Donald becomes increasingly frustrated with this, he decides to give Scrooge a taste of his own medicine and invites Scrooge's own uncle over, who is even thriftier than Scrooge himself. In Dutch, this uncle is called Schraalhans. Another character for your tree.
I already knew.

In Italy he is simply called "MacPaperon" (McDuck), I chose Duncan as his first name.

Wait, you can't call this character Duncan McDuck--there's already another Duncan McDuck, since "Duncan Duck" of H 86230 got turned into Duncan McDuck in the Netherlands, Norway and the USA.

Well, how would you call him, then?

Sigh... let's see... this is untranslatable. "Bet" would indicate "great-great-grand", achter is removed and oudoom is great uncle. The closest I could think of is a cousin of Scrooge's great-great-grandfather. Yes, that's it.

Oh, I don't know--pick some Scottish name that's not already used. (Of course, in an actual family, first names would get re-used over the generations, but in this case, I think it's better to keep each character's name unique, to reduce confusion.) Alastair (that one can be spelled at least seven different ways)? Robbie (as in Robbie Burns)? Gavin? Tavish? Gordon? You can google "Scottish boy names" for ideas.

I think Alastair is good. ;)

I am pretty sure they are.

No, I just checked--unless their names were for some reason cut out of the US publication, they don't exist.
