Quote from user: Mr. MHOWEVER - There is much more interesting story about Gladstone becoming a parent for a while (I belive it was drawn by Vicar but it wasn't his script) I read years ago which is another example of writers using Gladstone in a fresh way.
More or less the plot went like this :
Gladstone get envy of Donald having three kids who loves him (I belive it was Donald who pointed it out, sort of "Ha! I'm a better person becose I'm a parent, In your face" moment) He finds a year old girl, learns it's not easy to take care of a child like he expected but they form some cute relation, turns out some gangsters are after the girl, Donald get mix in the whole affair nadanadada Gladstone gaves the girl back to her parents but is happy that his luck let him know how it is to live with a kid. Hurrah!
All remember that this story shown Gladstone waaaay more human then usuall and well... it was sweet ;)

I remember that story. But if my memory serves me, it was more like this. Donald tells Gladstone something like: "Maybe I don't trip over diamonds and rubies every day, but I still have a good enough life, and I have three wonderful nephews". Gladstone just laughs at it, still believing he had the better life, saying something like "I can get anything I want, and if I wanted a child..." And then he sees the baby girl at his stoop and says: "My luck must have been confused and believed I wished for a child". But yes, it was very nice to see, that even though he needed some help from Donald and eventually returned her to her parents, he really cared about her.

Hey, that's my "Two Men and a Baby" from 1997.
Gladstone hesitantly cuddles baby Chloe: "Doggone, I feel weird! I guess this must be sympathy!"
Later: "Now you look tired! But what hours do little kids sleep?... And how in blazes do I change a diaper?... I see I can??t become knowledgeable by magic! For once, luck can't solve all my problems!"
Thanks for the compliments, friends??though in retrospect, the gangsters' scheme in the story was a bit overcomplicated. If we get Disney comics Stateside again and the story is published here, maybe I'll have a chance to tighten it up a bit.

Quote from user: Mr. MThis story have similar - if not identical premise (Gladstone ask Gyro to remove his luck and start's working) :

However Gladstone motivation for not wanting to be lucky is simply "I got tired of being lucky" rather then "Wow! I never realise my behavoir is hurting people I care about" so it's less efective and has no emotional impact

I just read that story, and wow, did it depress me! I never thought I would feel sorry for Gladstone... It was nice though to see him show a side of him, that wasn't his usual arrogant self.
Mr. M
Wow! I just found most odd Gladstone story and to make it more bizzare... it has a religious issues as well.

[spoiler ahead]

Basicaly one day Gladstone stops being lucky while Donald becomes a sucesfull owner of "snobistic" carpet cleaning comapny and becomes super serious about his work.
In wirdest turn of events (and this is only like page 6 of the whole thing...) Gladstone gets an existentional criris and travels to Tibet where he join a group of buddhist monks...

Take a big breth of air...

There is a story where Gladston Gander beomes a buddhist monk (the story narrated by Gladstone BTW)

Gladstone tries to medtate for day but only thig he can think of is anger and envy about Donalds new luck and thinks abot revange on Dolnald (who acts like a egocentric jerk in this story btw) This somehow create a big red stain on his meditation carpet, wich the monks call "the stain of anger" and since they are afraid of it they tell Gladstone that the only way to remove the stain is to clear his mind of evil ideas and kicks him out.
[I actually woder is the way monks are presented is offensive to actall Tibetan buddist]

Long story show since acording to the monks NOTHING can whipe the stain he gives it to Donalds comapny. The stain proves to be a gigantic chalnge for Donald company and he becomes ultra obssesive about it to the point he start talking to the carpet in difrent costumes (which I didn't got... maybe it was ment to illustrate he was going insane or something) Any way Donalds war to make the carpet clean takes so much of his focus he ignors all other orders and comapny loses reputation.
Since this SOMEHOW restore the balance (!?) Gladstones luck returns... however as soon he gets happy agian and stop being angry at Donald the stain is gone and Donalds company is back in buissnes.. However Gladstone is still lucky. He ask Donald how he can be sol lukcy to which Donald reply
"It's not luck. I'm just good in doing this thing"
Gladstone faints and whole thing ends with Gladstone the narrator asking the readers series of question including 'What this story was about any way?"

This was one of stranges duck stories I've ever read. It was very Twilight Zone in tone and just a wird expiriance... and if like me you enjoy this type of stuff I trully recomend it. It's still very amusing and the art is great...

Yeah, that sounds like a weird story...

One problem with a lot of stories that try to make Gladstone the "hero" (Rosa's Triple Distelfink, the "Luck Nullifier" story by Michael Gilbert, and the one that Mr. M describes above) is that they take away Gladstone's luck and then make Donald as jerky as possible; we're supposed to feel sorry for Gladstone in cases like this, but it's hard to forget that he treats Donald the same way all the time in other stories when their situations are reversed. It's hard to really resent Donald for giving Gladstone a small sample of the treatment Gladstone gives to him; frankly, I think that attempts to write a story with Gladstone as protagonist are somewhat misguided, since the character can never really change in the larger Duck universe, and it's hard to temporarily suspend our hatred of him in his solo stories.

I don't know. Gladstone usually is a character, that I love to hate. But there are also times, when I do feel sorry for him.

If you like Gladstone Gander stories you might enjoy Walt Disney's LUCK of the DUCKS by Carl Fallberg. It's a BIG LITTLE BOOK published in 1969 by Whitman Publishing. You can find copies on eBay for just a few dollars. (I was able to find a NM never read hardcover copy for $10 including shipping.) It's a 4" x 5" book with 249 pages and has a color drawing on every other page.

The story moves rapidly (probably a little too crazily) but Gladstone is just totally in his character all the way and hilarious. A lot of fun!

Fans of Gladstone Gander can debate who did the better job of voicing Gladstone, Rob Paulsen (DuckTales or Corey Burton (the Going Quackers video game). Or neither. Prior to 1987, I never thought about what kind of voice Gladstone would have...but I don't like Paulsen's portrayal or Burton's portrayal. I still have no idea what Gladstone should sound like, though. You can hear samples by clicking the tiny little arrows beneath their names at http://www.behindthevoiceactors.com/voice-compare/Disney/Gladstone-Gander/

Although Paulsen's isn't what I pictured, I think it fits well enough. On the other hand, while I appreciate Burton's seeming effort to make him sound more like a duck in a Donald kind of way, I don't find that his voice synchronizes well with Gladstone's character at all.

No one has sounded as Gladstone should have sounded not like a human, but a goose. A gander is a male goose. He should have a honking voice, like a male goose. He should sound like a human with severely blocked sinuses, trying to clear them. As Donald "quacks", Gladstone should "honk" his words.

Is the Walt Disney Company aware of all the Disney artwork on the DeviantArt site? I'm assuming that none of the drawings and paintings were produced for profit, otherwise there would be copyright violations and Disney's lawyers would be preparing to do battle. NickeTupp (Alexander Ginlund) posted a picture of his painting of Gladstone Gander admiring his reflection in a mirror:
