Quote from user: CoolwaterAnother con of the old CBL in comparison with the new CBC (and its hypothetical future English edition) is that in the latter one "King Scrooge the First" and all Junior Woodchucks stories are presented in finished-inked versions of Daan Jippes instead of Strobl, Wright, Carey & Co. That looks muuuuuch better.
That's a good point too.
I just had a look at the books. I will not buy them. There are three important cons for me:
1st I like colored comics more. I think they are easier to read if they have a lot of details like Barks art.
2nd The offered collection was not in best condition.
3rd I think, there will be a new colored collection based on the European ones within the next 5 years. Until then I have enough Uncle Scrooge and Comics&Stories books to read.

Quote from user: Gerd SyllwasschyQuote from user: Robb_KThe Scandinavian sets are of excellent quality. They are fairly similar. The German one is different looking, and the paper isn't as good and the quality of the books and binding isn't quite as good as the Scandinavian sets, but overall, it is still of excellent quality.
I'm surprised to hear this. Someone at Ehapa told me back then that the German CBC was printed together with the Scandinavian editions to save costs. The color elements are all the same so they just had to do a separate print run for the black layer which contains the texts.
Well, I haven't actually seen one of the Nordic books yet. In any case, I'm quite satisfied with the quality of the German paper.
As I said, regardless of my saying there is a quality difference between the Scandinavian and German sets, that difference is not large. The quality of The German set is excellent. From what you stated, the colouring must be the same. Therefore, the difference in the paper, must determine how the colour looks. That slight difference may just be a difference in reader "taste" as to its look, and not in quality. The difference is mainly in the texture of the covers and paper, and the shape of the book. Both versions are of excellent quality. If The English version was patterned after either the German or Scandinavian, that would be fine with me.

Due to a mishap some of the swedish and danish CBSV were with german chaptes, due to a binding mix-up. As of what I've heard, it was only the mixed language, that was outstanding.
No difference in colouring or paperquality, as I understand it...

If it's going to cost me 2800 dollars I'm not even going to bother.

Firstly, please allow me another personal note:
Hedberg & Rob, you've got mail!
;)
Now, concerning black & white art, it truly is beautiful; I only have two sets of the first CBL and the whole CBLinColor, and I love them both; I also have all the Western, Crime, Horror and post-code E.C. sets in black & white, and was equally glad to get Gemstone's superb colored versions; color obviously makes somet things clearer or rather easier to spot quickly, but b&w allows you to admire the art itself, pure and unadulterated (censorship aside) (even good coloring can mask some details).

Also, from an artist's point of view, it's nice to see the black and white inks to see how Barks made his pen and brush strokes. And it's also nice to see his blue pencil line scribbles, to see how he sketched. It's nice to have the stories in all 3 stages of completion.

If they only knew...
I would consider a collection of CB's blue pencil scribbles just as interesting.

I'm wondering if we'll ever get a true and complete Carl Barks collection in a sitting that doesnt involve albums or otherwise along with maybe a Rosa collection. That would be nice but at this stage it seems like something that's a long way off.

I like the idea of having albums that combine original Carl Barks stories with their sequels by Don Rosa.

I would think so Charlie but I didn't order any of them and now they are not available. I already have most of the stories in those volumes anyway.
Here is a list of the issues that I have the stories in
Barks stories
Uncle Scrooge Adventures #10 in Land of the Pygmy Indians
Walt Disney's Comics and Stories #571 featuring Donald Duck in Donald Duck's Atom Bomb
Uncle Scrooge #282 in The Trouble with Dimes
Walt Disney Giant #3 featuring Donald Duck in Super Snooper
Donald Duck Adventures (Gladstone Series) #33 in The Golden Helmet
Rosa Stories
Donald Duck Adventures (Disney Series) #37 in The Duck Who Fell to Earth
Donald Duck Adventures (Disney Series) #1 in The Money Pit (Also in Donald and Scrooge #1)
Donald Duck Adventures (Disney Series) #34 in Super Snooper Strikes Again (Also in Walt Disney Giant #3)
Donald Duck Adventures #44 in The Lost Charts of Columbus
I do not have War of the Wendigo. That's the only story of that series that I don't have. Maybe Boom will print their own series of Barks and Rosa TPBs.

The Norwegian section of Egmont has published the Barks-index, which indexes the complete works (the Norwegian edition and partly the Danish, Swedish, Finnish and German) with cross-references to both CBL and CBLiC.
With photoreference of covers of every disneybook containing Barks stories, along with synopsis and a splashpage of every story.
448 pages, same binding, but with a blue back.
Limited edition - only 1500 - next volume is Calgary Eye-opener...
Thanx to Solveig Thime and the whole Norwegian crew for making this possible.

Not quite right: some Swedish CBSV copies have a bunch of pages in *Norwegian*, not in German.Quote from user: HedbergThe Norwegian section of Egmont has published the Barks-index, which indexes the complete works (the Norwegian edition and partly the Danish, Swedish, Finnish and German) with cross-references to both CBL and CBLiC.
I'm more looking forward to the oil paintings and the non-Disney comic stories volumes. But as an Inducks indexer, an index is also quite interesting, although I would have preferred an index of the *Swedish* publications. Ah well...

Here, they produced something very similar already in 1995 for the first complete "Barks Library". So they probably jitter that they would get rid of the stuff when they'll do it again for the "Carl Barks Collection" now. But anyway, it is good that Norway advances as a pioneer with respect to bonus works for the Collection, also Barney Bear, the Eye Opener material, maybe the oil paintings. The chance is close to zero that they'll ever edit all that stuff here if they had to collect the material, make up the concept etc. on their own. But if they are spoon-fed by someone different, they may dare to try ... :)

The main-editor of the index is Johnny Grote, who was the frontman in the German index in 1995...
