Topic: Upcoming Disney classic TPBs from Boom!

I was looking at upcoming TPBs from Boom! on Amazon, and came across these 4 that are coming out next summer. They are:

Walt Disney Treasury: Donald Duck Volume 1 by Don Rosa - June 7th

Walt Disney's Comics and Stories Archives Volume 1 by Floyd Gottfredson and Al Taliaferro - July 5th

Walt Disney Treasury: Donald Duck Volume 2 by Don Rosa - August 2nd

Disney's Four-Color Adventures Volume 1 by Al Taliaferro and Jack Hannah - August 2nd

All 4 of these are 160 page TPBs that retail for $14.99. The first TPB Amazon has discounted to $10.19, and imagine they will discount the other 3 when the publication date gets closer.

A few thoughts about this. I am really excited that Boom is publishing these TPBs. While I know there are some who preferred Boom's hardcovers, I really think these are more reasonable. Not only are the prices 10 dollars cheaper, you get 160 pages instead of 112. I wonder what would have happened if Boom had started out with TPBs, instead of the hardcovers which according to Boom did not sell very well...?

I also like the fact that they seem to be publishing a number of these in pretty quick succession. Hopefully if they sell well, Boom will continue to publish them at a pretty quick pace.

Finally, I noticed the *omission* of something - none of the first 4 TPBs lists Carl Barks as author. Now that could easily just be an oversight and something that has been omitted by mistake. However, I hope there is a good reason for this. What if the reason Carl Barks is not listed is because Boom has a dedicated Carl Barks Library in mind? I realize that that is probably a long shot, but it does seem odd that Barks is not mentioned in the first 4. Perhaps such a library is something Boom would like to have as a big annoucement for at the 2011 Comic-con?

Perhaps this is just wishful thinking, but wouldn't it be odd for Boom to publish such TPBs as the 4 upcoming, and *not* publish a Carl Barks Library? I think they could easily publish such a library with the same format, page count, and price as the upcoming 4.

Whatever the case, I am excited about these 4 upcoming volumes and hope it is just the start of a long-lived line of Disney TPBs from Boom. I would love to hear what others think about this development.

I think it is cool that Boom is listing those TPBs.

Looks like a fun lineup. I think the flaw with the hardcover books was in the selection. Some of the holiday selections lend themselves better to paperback format and while I love the Don Rosa's Life and Times series, it's been released fairly regularly in the states.

Great news, obviously. I hope you're right about the dedicated CBL, Dean. I'll definitely buy all of these (even though I already own every Rosa story), but I'm especially pumped by the fact that they're reprinting some less high-profile vintage stuff. Way to go, Boom! I'm glad to see you finally getting your shit together.

Looking good, looking very good. Taliaferro, Hannah, Gottfredson, Don Rosa, yeah, this could become something. I only hope the "Walt Disney Treasury" line keeps the logo of the "Walt Disney Treasures" line. For the rest, what could go wrong here?

Great news! I will pre-order right away.
.. and I really hope for a Carl Barks Collection :)

Yeah a Carl Barks Collection would definitely be cool.

I will definitely be getting all of these. I would prefer hardcover (Pretty Please :)) but will take what is coming just the same. I would really enjoy having a hardcover set of all of Don Rosa's material since Boom did such a wonderful job with the Life and Times series. I would SO LOVE to see a dedicated series to both Don Rosa and Carl Barks since it is so difficult to find any of the Gladstone albums anymore...Great news, indeed.

I'm in for any and all Barks/Rosa collections.
Seems kinda weird to make the Rosa books "Donald Duck" collections, since the majority of his work is "Uncle Scrooge". But hey, as long as they're exhaustively comprehensive, you can call the things "Morty and Ferdie" for all I care.

So, I asked for more info about these on the Boom forum as we were asked to do, and was told that I can't discuss it because it hasn't been "officially announced"?
So let me get this straight.....I can order it. That's fine, I can shell out my money for it, but I'm not allowed to ask about what I'm going to be getting?
That, Boom Studios, is a load of malarkey.
Taking a swipe at a customer for mentioning a product that is available for pre-order is a really stupid move. You either want my money or you don't.
Charlie Brown
That really doesn't make sense. If they don't want people to talk about it before an "official announcement", they shouldn't give these data to Amazon or they should announce it first.
BTW: I pre-ordered both Don Rosa books :)

I get what they're trying to do, but I have to admit that I think they probably go a little too far in trying to control the messaging. From a public/customer relations standpoint, I think it's risky. And that's not from both a fan and professional perspective.

They're really not sinister people at Boom. It's pretty likely that Amazon listed it for preorder before Boom! wanted them to. Happens with video games all the time.
MustangRockstar
No worries. I think everyone appreciates BOOM! They've been very helpful in pointing me to a comic shop that carries their material.
Rodney
I don't think they're sinister people, but I do maintain that it's silly to pretend that something doesn't exist when it is listed on a major retailer's site. Chip e-mailed me privately explaining their issue, and while I respect their views and their rights to run their company as they see fit, it still seems like a mistake, and a not particularly fan friendly way to handle affairs.
