I saw this at the local comic shop yesterday; I didn't have time to look at it in great detail, but a cursory scan makes it look very much like the exact same contents (commentary, articles, European covers, ect.) of the first half of the Gemstone printing--it only contained Chapters 1-6. Thus the notation of "Volume 1", with Volume 2 to follow with Chapters 7-12.
If there's anything new/different from the Gemstone TPB, I didn't see it--but like I said, it was a quick look.
The hardcover is nice, but having already bought the Gemstone trade paperback, and posessing the original Gladstone printings from the 1990s, I probably won't get this unless I can find it cheap later at a Half Price Books.

Hello. I ordered this hardbound book, too, from Amazon, so I will wait for it to arrive. I have the original comic books from Gladstone (all 12 issues, and most of the later additions to Don Rosa's excellent story about Uncle Scrooge's life), but I note a prior collection (softcover) sold out, and I hope this hardbound version will be more enjoyable to read than the comic books, which are in plastic bags with board to keep the bag stiff, with a small piece of scotch tape closing each bag. I also have been debating this week about keeping my Disney Duck books collection, selling duplicates, or buying a Barks lithograph, etc. It's good to be in touch with a Disney Duck collecting community now for the first time for me.

Picked it up yesterday. Yeah, content is the same, but the presentation mops the floor with the Gemstone softcover.
It's a gorgeous book with a great design, and it even has one o' them fancy attached-ribbon bookmark dealies. :D
My only critiques:
- While I think the awesome use of blown-up Lo$ art on the inner covers looks great, I think they might've up-scaled the art too much, as there's some unfortunate visible pixelation.
- The page that features the original cover to Chapter 1 is seems like it was mis-printed, as the ink looks very faded. Probably just an issue with my copy, because just like Donald, I'll beat the odds against my favor and manage to end up with the one manufacturing defect on almost everything I buy! :P
- I really really wish the whole story was in one volume. Splitting it up into two books might make each half a bit more affordable as single purchases, but in the long run people are probably just not going to be able to find one of the two books, and having the saga split up is a bit cumbersome to those who do have both.
Either way, no regrets for me. This is probably my all-time favorite comic book story, and I have every English printing of it. I think Boom's presentation is the most impressive yet!

I remember when the Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck was published in the Swedish Disney weekly in the 1990s.
First of all, the first two chapters were not published at all.
The remaining 10 chapters were published in different weeklies, with a few months between each chapter. Two of them were so long that they were split up on three parts. Luckily, there was just one week between each part of these two chapters.
This definitely caused some people only getting a subset of the work, especially considering that the first two chapters were skipped.

Thanks for the news and those pictures, Arthur! I ordered mine from Amazon, so it will arrive any day now. I am happy to see embossing on the book's front cover under the dust jacket. Don Rosa is an amazing talent and has carried on the Barks tradition in an inspiring manner.

I pre-ordered this book from Amazon months ago and just got an email from Amazon that the release date has been pushed back. Estimated delivery date is now March 12 to March 16.
I'm surprised about this because the book has been out in comic shops already.

I just got the same message from Amazon by e-mail, and I live in Houston, Texas, USA. I am surprised that they must wait until March. Yesterday I bought a nice copy at a local comic book store, and I left a nice copy for sale on the shelf at $25. My copy from Amazon will ba a second copy, for investment or for a gift for a family member, etc. Rosa's art is a very nice change from Carl Barks in some ways, providing such detail in every Don Rosa panel! Of course I still like work by Carl Barks and I am tempted by lithographs and figurines.

I recieved the same e-mail also. I thought I would have to wait a couple of weeks for mine anyway, because I ordered the "Walt Disney's Valentine's Classics" at the same time to get the free shipping. My e-mail included an update for it also:
Previous estimated arrival date: February 16 2010 - February 22 2010
New estimated arrival date: January 25 2010 - January 28 2010
Strange that it has been pushed forward and hasn't even been released yet and "The Life and Times" has been pushed back. Maybe they didn't order enough and sold out.

I pre-ordered mine in August already. I would hope that they would ship out the ones they have to people who ordered it first.

I received my copy the other day from my LCS and was thoroughly impressed with the presentation. It is nice to be able to look at the old bookshelf and see the Rosa collection in an appropriate hardcover collection. I hope BOOM continues on with the whole series and possibly begins to expand their production of hardcovers. I am still holding out hope for a complete Barks and Rosa hardcover set in the near future - fingers crossed!Pr
