Hi all!
I'd like to wish DCML members and readers a Merry Christmas. I hope it turns
out to be a great day for all of you and that no one gets a lump of coal in
their stocking. I remember the first time I found the DCMl. My first reaction
was "Wow! People that like/talk about Disney comics?!" It was great and I've
learned alot following all the discussions.
Speaking of nostalgia, what was the first Disney comic or story that you
remember reading? My first encounter with Disney comics was Christmas of 1990. The
JCPenny catalog offered a package of 12 Disney Comics (as well as Nintendo
Comics). So I asked for those for Christmas. It had Mickey Mouse Adventures #1
among others. The first story that I can really remember reading was "Three
Dirty Little Ducks" in WDCS 544 (which came in the package). From then on, I was
always getting Disney comics at various stores.
Towards the last year or two of Gladstone Series II, I got out of it because
I just plain couldn't find them in stores. I guess I should have started going
to comics shops then, but somehow that didn't occur to me. But by then, the
$6.95 comics had started to take over, so I couldn't have bought them anyway.
Heck, I thought things were getting pricey when the comics went from $1.50 to
$1.95! Oh what 5 years absence of Disney comics will do to make one tolerable
to paying more for comics. ;) After that, Toy Liquidators was my friend, buying
$1 Gladstone comics that apparently didn't too well the first time around,
but that dried up after a year as well.
And then, in June 2003, I made my way to a comics shop and on the door was a
poster heralding the return of Disney comics! That advertising was a pleasant
surprise and when I got in, they had Uncle Scrooge 319. I made what I
considered a small capital investment of $6.95 (time has obviously made me oblivious
to the cost. ;) And that's when the fun began and hasn't stopped since.
I only meant to talk about my first comic, not my whole saga with Disney
comics, but I guess that doesn't matter. Merry Christmas everyone! :)

I can understand why you think this is a good idea, since it "tightens"
the Duck universe. But as you write further down in your posting,
there's a problem:
In a number of stories, it has been shown that April, May and June have
crushes on Huey, Dewey and Louie, respectively. We've even seen them
going out on romantic dates. (The boys usually being embarrassed by
this.) If Daisy's brother is the father of HDL, that makes HDL and AMJ
cousins. Not distant cousins, but first cousins. And in some places --
including, I believe, certain states in the USA -- a romantic
relationship between first cousins is incest.
Now, imagine that somebody tells the Disney company that HDL and AMJ are
first cousins and are romantically involved. Michael Eisner already
killed off the original plot for "The Lion King 2" because of this. What
do you think will happen to any future use of AMJ -- or reprints of old
AMJ stories? I see a huge likelihood that the girls will be killed off
on a permanent basis, just to avoid Disney being accused of promoting
incest. And I wouldn't blame Disney for this.
Is the loss of April, May and June really worth it, just so we can fit
Daisy's brother into Donald's family tree? What does other list members
think?

When Daisy first shows up in the newspaper strip (November 4, 1940),
Donald is utterly smitten -- a throbbing heart can be seen in his speech
balloon. The next day he goes to extremes, just to catch a glimpse of
her. To me, that indicates Daisy is a babe. (By Duck standards, of
course.)
As for whether Gladstone can have any girl he wants, I seriously doubt
it. Cars, yachts, mansions, all the money he needs... Sure, why not?
He's the luckiest man in the world! But all those things are only
physical objects. Does Gladstone have any real friends? A girlfriend who
actually likes him? Any meaningful emotional connection to another
person? Apart from some very rare exceptions, the answer is no. And
those exceptions are usually driven away by Gladstone's narcissistic
focus on himself. Fortunately for Gladstone, he is too focused on
himself to notice...

There is this Italian "A Gal For Gladstone" story

In this fain story, Magica De Spell change in to a girl and Gladstone fell
love in here. She became his girl friend. Scrooge give Gladstone a job in
the Money Bin thinking, since he have a girl fiend he is more responsible.
Scrooge go somewhere, and Glastone was left in the Bin, clining the roof.
Magica (still as the girl) went inside to still the Dime. Gladstone sow
Scrooge coming and fell from the roof. Magica have to chouse : save
Gladstone ore still the Dime. She chouse to save him.
On the last pages of the story we see Magica, looking sad in the window and
talking to here Raven.
Magica : "Ooww! What happening to me? What I had on may mind? I save this
Luckster instead what I want for years! But he was very comited and nice,
wasn't he?
And men wile, Gladstone is sitting next to a river, with de same sad look.
Gladstone : "(...) But I fell, I lost something. And even the Fortune can't
help me find it".

I personally would love to see a Sequel to this story, ore another
Gladstone/Magica romance story.
In my opinion Magica and Gladsone would make a great couple.
