Topic: Suggestions For Improving Our DC Forum

Noooo, please don't make links open in new windows. I hate it when webpages decide to clutter my task bar (and the rest of my desktop, for that matter) with browser windows. I like to have only one browser window (or perhaps two) open, and instead use tabs for having multiple pages open at once. Others like to have a new window for every webpage they have open. The point is, though, that I want to decide myself how I want to open a link (in the same window/tab, in a new tab, in a new window), I don't want websites to decide that for me. If people want to open links in new windows, it's very easy to hold down Shift or Ctrl (or whatever button triggers this in your browser) while clicking the link (or right-clicking the link, selecting "open in new window" or the like). Some browsers can even be set to open links in new windows/tabs if you middle-click them. By forcing links to open in new windows, you intervene with people's surfing habits which is quite annoying.

Well, it's just as easy to hold your click and drag the link to the very same window. ;)
I guess it should be left as it is, then. It's just a detail.

Quote from user: Robb_KUsing the I.P. addresses would be confusing for people who would want to know what country I "represent". As my computer in USA (in winter, parts of spring and fall) will read "USA", and my computer in Germany (in summer) will read "Germany", and my computer in Holland (in spring and fall will read (The Netherlands), and while visiting in Danmark for some weeks (as I do every year), my computer code will be from Danmark.
Then again being able to track you around the globe would just be a neat sideeffect of the proposed feature.

Quote from user: Robb_KOr will the I.P. adress always just be that of the computer used when the person registered and/or made out their user profile? What if I had registered while at my USA computer, but then filled out my profile information when at my computer in Holland? Would my I.P. address have also changed in my profile?
I'm not quite sure how it works, but my bet would be that the IP is logged per post and not per account. In that case the flag would reflect the country you were in when you wrote the specific post... kinda cool if you ask me ;)

Nice job with the flags! But I believed that Cocou was French (one of the three founders of COA)?

François is currently in the U.S.A. ; the flag script uses the I.P. information, so it corresponds to the place you are actually writing from, rather than your nationality.

Just added the flags!
Country location recognition don't always work as expected, for instance some are from "European Union" instead of Denmark or another country - although it is not completely wrong in this case.

Nice job with the flags guys. :) It's interesting to see where everybody comes from.

Or where everyone is located on a given day! Ha! Ha!
Cacou
Of course if you connect to a PC elsewhere in the world and post from that, you will have a completely different "country", so that does not reflect where you are with certainty.

Well that's just asking for trouble anyway. ;)

The flag-function is great, and I'm really impressed that you implemented it that fast!

That will change all 5 times I move, every year! And it will also change when any other members take a trip. Countries that have Disney Comics conventions will have their numbers swell during the convention periods.

Remember those special Duck and Mouse smilies that someone made for our DCML - Talk Forum? Can we import those to this forum for use here?
Cacou
OK, tell me where these are, and I'll see if I can add them here.

Be my guest! (the English version is incomplete; the French version is hosted by Picsouman, for use on his own Forum)
