Why do you nominate THIS cover for "weirdest Disney Comics cover"? Is it because you think The Nephews are too old to be taking a shower together with their parent? Barks had them attending kindergarten (the only school grade EVER mentioned in a Barks story). That would make them 5 years old (in USA), To me, they are 5 years old because of that, and are superintelligent and sophisticated for 5. That is REAL evidence, all the comments saying that they are early teens because of their behaviour is complete conjecture. Barks evidence overrides conjecture. In any case I think Americans are very prudish when it comes to the naked body. We were all born with one. We should not be ashamed of it, and not be loathe to view others' bodies. Clearly they are all helping each other wash a difficult part of the body to reach-the back of the neck. That is a "noble" gesture. In addition, Kalle Anka wanted to give away a washcloth (handdoek), so this cover links well to that aim.

I don't think this cover is even slightly "weird". Did you not ever take a shower with your children when they were 5 years old? In Europe you can go to any beach (or many parks in summer) and see people of every age completely bare. It is completely normal. What is NOT normal, is seeing a prurient agenda in that. True, there are pedophiles in this World. But they don't read Kalle Anka to look at naked Duckpeople.

Here are the weirdest Mickey Magazine covers in my opinion. I could nominate nearly all of them, since most depict a completely random event out of context, but these are the strangest.

However, they're sorta cute in their own way.

Most (if not all) of them were drawn by Louis Santel, a Belgian artist. I did not meet him but Pierre Nicolas described him to me as a "colorfoul" guy who bragged that he did some of these covers in the train from Paris to Bruxelles (he was working as "art director" for the Disney French and Belgian weeklies). Nicolas also told me that Tenas (Louis Santel's nickname) was able to do the entire Belgian weekly almost all by himself.

I actually have this issue (DD 59), because it has Fallberg's Loch Eerie Monster in it, and I love Nessie stories. But I have long been mystified by the physics of the cover illustration. If you were drinking from a water fountain and wearing a hat with a big brim, conceivably the hat could be dislodged by the water, if it spurted up past your head. But Donald's hat? I think not.

Of the many excellently weird covers y'all have come up with so far, my votes for weirdest go to the glowing, hypnotized Donald and Scrooge, and to the Komiks Gigant Donald with the transforming Donalds springing up behind him.

The Faccini fish-Donald nominated by Indiana Goof goes well with the mer-Donald posted by Artemi.

The "Journal de Mickey" back page doesn't actually say much about the story at all. It has a panel from the story, where Donald turns around and sees and identifies a mermaid ("I told Uncle Scrooge that...Yikes! You're a mermaid!"). But the other text is about a yachtswoman who was involved and is interviewed in this ocean-celebrating issue. The picture where she's looking at the sketch for the cover ends with "What is the masculine of 'mermaid'?" The French for "mermaid" is "sirene," and indeed there is no masculine form. In English, of course, there are mermen as well as mermaids.
