Has anybody here gotten the Dark Horse Series 2 "Moneybags" Scrooge with the blue coat? If so, please tell me what you think of it. I haven't actually seen one, just the promo photo so I can't tell what it really looks like from other angles. I'm considering ordering one. I didn't care for it much at first. I thought his feet looked small and his legs appeared short, but the photo's kind of grown on me and I'm starting to like seeing the different blue coat. Any thoughts or opinions?

The Dark Horse Scrooge Series statues have grown on me more and more. I eventually ended up buying both Series 1 and Series 2. I'm sure some people wouldn't like the rough Syroco style but I find a charm in them. They look especially nice when you have a bunch of figures together.

The First Series I believe are the better sculpted but I slowly got Series 2 as well and I'm glad I did. The only figure I didn't like were the nephews which I sold. They were just so small and they looked the wrong size next to the others. I didn't like the pose of them sitting on top of each other, either.

One figure I was surprized by was the "Moneybags" Scrooge. He's pretty easy to find, hasn't gone up in price, and I think he looks a lot better than the manufacturer photo you see of him. Perhaps people are turned off by the blue coat but I like the variety.

I still wish they'd do a Flintheart Glomgold and some Junior Woodchucks in the right size... but just the same I'm very pleased with these overall. And even though it's a Carl Barks series it'd sure be great to have both an Arpin Lusene and the Black Knight, too!

Just rebought the nephews statue again. Since I had all the others I changed my mind and decided I should have the nephews in there, too. I guess I've become a completest. Some of these figures have become pretty pricey on the resell market but if you take your time and shop around you can find some good deals. So few reasonably priced Carl Barks looking figures were ever made (and never in the Syroco style if you like that) that these seem very special to me and I went all out and got them all.

I never could get into that style. I wish I could.
With that said, it's always nice when you see something Scrooge/Barks related. It seems so rare.
Being a Disney comics fan feels like being a Freemason sometimes. You need a handshake to know if you've encountered a fellow brother.

I can easily understand why someone wouldn't like the distressed Dark Horse figures. On the other hand I have become so used to them that figures that are mint and brand new are starting to look wrong to me now. On Fender electric guitars they charge extra for a new guitar made to look vintage and worn. I know these aren't vintage, but that look appeals to me and if I was buying one I would pay extra for that. Pretty crazy, I know.

An old friend of mine named Gary Coddington used to sell Carl Barks' drawings. He used to also sell Uncle Scrooge figures which is how I met him. Gary also had one of the largest Superman collections in the world. This was back at least 20 years ago before Duck Tales and the internet. Back then if you had 15 or 20 Uncle Scrooges you had quite a collection. Gladstone comics had recently come out and I had a letter published in one saying I collected Uncle Scrooge figures and wondered if anyone else did.

From my published letter I received about half a dozen letters from other collectors. One I was especially excited about was from Don Rosa. I recognized him as the person who just written the fantastic new Uncle Scrooge story I had bought called "The Son of the Sun". I started comparing notes with the other collectors trying to figure out what Uncle Scrooge figures were out there. One person who wrote was from Germany and I was amazed at the figures over there that I had never seen. We'd trade figures back and forth and postage was about a million dollars.

Anyway, my point is at that time Uncle Scrooge figures were hard to find. I was amazed by Gary Coddington's huge and rare Superman collection. There was nothing like that with Uncle Scrooge. A book came out of vintage Superman collectables (with many of Gary's) and I purchased it. I imagined what it would be like if my comic book hero, Uncle Scrooge, had great vintage collectables like that. One that I especially liked and that was very sought after by collectors was the Superman Syroco.

When Dark Horse introduced the Syroco Uncle Scrooge I had to have this. It was like I could actually have a vintage looking Syroco of my favorite character (and in the Carl Barks style, too!!!). I liked all the ducks in the Scrooge series so much I started buying them all as they came out. A dealer who I bought one from told me of a comic book show happening near me in Yorba Linda, California that Don Rosa would be at.

I went there and had one of the best times of my life. Don immediately recognized me and invited me to join him for the whole show. Don is an absolutely great guy and I can't even begin to tell you how much fun I had. It was really enjoyable watching the fans come up, seeing how excited they were, and hearing their stories.

Here's a funny one, though. The subject of the Dark Horse Syroco duck figures came up. Don said he had them but didn't care for them that much because he didn't like their worn look and the rough seams. That sure surprized me, but I can see how many people would feel this way. I will say this, though, when you put a bunch of the Dark Horse Syroco figures together they look way better than just one by itself. So if you don't like them you really need to buy all eleven!
