Topic: The Disney Afternoon Thread

I waited for someone else to start the thread suggested in the Quack Pack thread, but no one did.
So I did. ;)
Are the Disney Afternoon shows still aired anywhere in the world? In the States, they used to run occasionally on Toon Disney, but they're gone since the channel has been rebranded as Disney XD.

Unfortunately, they're changing Toon Disney into Disney XD over here in Sweden as well. However, SVT (our public service network) shows "Winnie the Pooh" and "Goof Troop" every Saturday.

Gargoyles is still on Disney XD.

It is? I'll have to check the schedule. Did they bury it in the early a.m. along with all the Marvel shows? Seems like all I ever see on DXD is 'Phineas and Ferb' or 'Zack and Cody'.

I thought it was Jetix they were changing into Disney XD. Are you sure? (I could easily be wrong on this.)

EDIT: According to http://www.tvnyt.com/artikel/default.asp?id=17580 , Disney XD is replacing both! I've got Jetix on cable TV, so hopefully this means I'll get Disney XD...

Apparantly they are not currently airing too many of the former Disney Afternoon shows. It's a shame that Toon Disney is now Disney XD.
Kneon
It seems like the original Disney Channel is for tween girls and DXD is for tween boys.
I remember when both used to be about Disney... *sigh*

Yeah I miss those days too.

In particular, I miss Mousterpiece Theater and Good Morning Mickey. Anything that showcased the classic shorts. My first memories of Disney Channel were of those shows.

And Mousercise. But... we just don't talk about that... ;)

Those were good shows Kneon. Maybe they should make a channel known as Classic Disney so they can show those shows again.
Nefarious
I swear I think they're trying to erase our memories of those shows, they're not even releasing their DVD's that they should be (IE: at least one, if not two volumes of Duck Tales should've came out, same with Darkwing, and at least one of Tail Spin)

@Roger: Yeah, a Classic Disney Channel would be awesome. Think AMC but all Disney shorts, films and (of course) Disney Afternoon. There's very little DISNEY in today's Disney Channels. I don't know why they even bother using the mouse ear logo anymore. :(
@Nefarious: I give them credit for even giving us DVD releases, but they're bare bones, out of order (DuckTales pilot was included in the SECOND set... why??) and just seemed hastily thrown together. Now it looks like they won't even finish off several of the series. Granted, I wasn't expecting the Disney Treasures red carpet treatment for syndicated TV shows, but Disney Afternoon was fondly remembered by many. The fact that the name "Scrooge McDuck" still rings a bell to non-comics readers in America can be attributed to the success of DuckTales.
Nefarious
yea that's the point I was trying to get across, I sorta meant 'staple shows' I sure didn't really excpect ones like Bonkers or Goof Troop, even though as deservedly, didn't even excpect those to get released to begin with but like we both seem to think, one would think they'd try to at least complete Duck Tales, if anything else.
Kneon
Totally agree. I think they should've been committed to releasing DuckTales in its entirety before moving on to other sets, as its arguably the most popular Disney Afternoon show of all time. Maybe they just didn't sell well enough to warrant more releases? Though, a little exposure in the form of AIRING the show might solve that.... ;)

Links to Darkwing Duck comic scans. Copyrights are bein' violated, so SHHH! ;)
