There isn??t a plan (and investments) to improve the situation because the sales don??t increase and this is correlated to the absence of a strategy.

earnest if you're implying what I think you're implying then there doesn't seem to be any hope of seeing any traditional Disney Comics in America again.

Well... perhaps not this year, and perhaps not next year... but this has happened before, right? Not so long ago, there were almost 5 years without any WDC or US (1998-2003). I don't think the situation is any different now, so it's just waiting until another publisher tries his hands on Disney comics. And yes, that could take another four years, but let's hope we don't have to wait that long.

I hope you're right Dutch Duck Fan. I remember that time period between 1998 and 2003. That left a huge void for Disney Comics Fans. I hope we don't have to wait that long this time either.

I think it's about more than just marketing - I firmly believe that Disneyneeds to get the characters out there.
They need to build hype around the characters, get them in the theme parks, get them on more clothing items, on tv, etc.
The bottom line is that when Disney wants to promote something, they do. And more often than not, it works.

There's been no word on a new pick-up of the franchise. All we know is that Boom! is out. Just because Fantagraphics had a Disney Comic book published for "Free Comic Book Day" does NOT mean that they will get the "Traditional Disney Comics Characters'" franchise, or that they want to get it.

Gemstone did a great job. I still miss them.
I think there should be at least Uncle Scrooge, Comics and Stories and one summer and one christmas book.

As I think we should all know by this time, Gemstone went down due to poor financial management decisions rather than anything intrinsic to Disney comics per se. So I think the answer to the question "how many Disney titles can be supported in the US?" is "at least as many as were being released at the end of Gemstone's run." Though that, of course, is assuming a level of marketing savvy that cannot be taken for granted.

If I were to throw out a number, I'd say three to start.
Uncle Scrooge, Comics and Stories and Darkwing Duck. With separate Donald and Mickey titles being a possibility.

I'm sorry, as much as I love Darkwing Duck and respect the series' fans, I really believe Mickey and Donald titles take precedence over anything from the Disney afternoon.

I would think that with all the buzz Epic Mickey and Fantagraphics Floyd Gottfredson books are getting, a Mickey Mouse comic would be a no-brainer, although difficult to figure out just what to run in it. Most new Mickey material uses the modern Mickey, and re-running Gottfredson's strips that were already printed in hardcovers would step on Fantagraphics' toes.

Gemstone certainly wasn't hurting for material, and beyond the Egmont stuff, there's a LOT of great classic Italian material by Scarpa and others that's never seen US publication--and I think we'd all say YES! to more Casty. If I had to choose the number of Disney Comics I would like at least 12 Disney Comics Titles. Those include Walt Disney's Comics and Stories, Uncle Scrooge, Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, Uncle Scrooge Adventures, Donald Duck Adventures, Mickey Mouse Adventures, Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse, Uncle Scrooge and Donald Duck, Duck Tales, Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers, and Darkwing Duck with Goof Troop and Quack Pack as possible titles.
