It's not clear what "original artwork" is supposed to mean when referring to the Artist's Edition. Is it comics stories or other art they've worked produced using Disney characters? It it's the former, I can't imagine there being much of a draw since Fantagraphics is doing such a great job with their run. I suppose IDW could release them faster and that would appeal to those who are impatient and can't wait another 11 or so years.
Has Don Rosa approved this or is going to be like Boom Studios?

It's not supposed to be a creator-based series and has also not much to do with their general Disney lineup. The Artist Edition is an IDW series in which they release oversized books showing untouched scans of the original b/w art of the comic pages including liquid paper marks, corrections etc. They've already done it for a variety of DC, Marvel and other authors. It has no relation whatsoever to the Fanta creator-based series as those Artist Edition books (that sell at more than $100) have a whole different target audience and present just a selection of original art instead of "real" full-color comics. Also, as mentioned before, it's only one book per author, not a "complete collection" or anything. The single-creator series are a whole different property to which only Fanta has the rights (as it had already been when BOOM still held the rights to the monthlies).
They've wanted to do a Rosa artist edition for quite some time, and Don knew about this since he's old friends with Scott Dunbier of IDW. I only knew about the possibility of an artist edition, taking over the whole monthly classic titles comes as quite some news. Last thing I heard was they'd been in talks at some other publisher.

Thanks for the clarification.

Is IDW now the new company to publish Traditional Disney Comics? I hope they do a better job Than Boom Studios.

What didn't you like about how Boom Studios handled Disney comics?

It's one step towards regular Disney comics in the US. I like it.

Hey, it's IDW! I don't know everyone at the company, naturally, but there are some pretty devoted and skilled souls handling many of their releases.

It *is* regular traditional Disney comics in the US, as the highlighted paragraph above (about the monthly standard character titles) clearly says. 8)

And yes, IDW is one of the publishers with the most capable staff at the moment, so their books will surely be to the liking of the fans. We'll see.

I would certainly love to see new issues of Donald Duck, Uncle Scrooge, Mickey Mouse and (I can only hope) Walt Disney's Comics and Stories. But I suppose we should wait to see what IDW says before making any speculations on their possible lineup of monthly books.

A lot of people have been complaining about Boom Studios butchered Disney Comics. I hope there will be fewer complaints about IDW Publishing.

Any examples of this butchering? I wouldn't know since the only Boom Disney comic I ever got around to reading was the Darkwing Duck comic.

I've only read one book put out by Boom!, which was the hardcover Christmas book, but I can say that I was disappointed in it. The cover art was weird (not really a valid complaint, I know), it felt poorly put together, and one of the stories wasn't even listed in the table of contents.
