I still wonder why the hell Disney isn't simply having THEIR OWN COMIC PUBLISHER COMPANY(aka Marvel) do it.

Well, they did from 1990-1993. Any reason they wouldn't want to do it again?

I don't know. All I know is that a lot of people complained about how bad the Boom Studios Disney Comics were back when they are around. You should see some of the threads on here to know what I'm talking about. I think it's a good idea for Disney to publish their own comic books again. That would be cool. Maybe they will learn not to make the same mistakes from the First Time.

I really enjoyed the Darkwing Duck comic series, even though I only own and have read the first eight issues. The only other Boom comics I own are the Ducktales and Ducktales/Darkwing Duck crossover trade-paperbacks, which I still haven't read. Were those stories any good?

The only Boom Studios issues I have are the first two issues of Darkwing Duck, The First issue of Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers and The Darkwing Duck and Duck Tales in Dangerous Currency TPB. I couldn't get the others because they were too expensive. I got the first Darkwing issues by winning them on the Darkwing Duck Marathon Live Stream Contest a few years back and The owner of Boom Studios sent me the first issue of Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers in exchange for a review. As for the Darkwing Duck and Duck Tales Crossover My Mom ordered it for me because I asked her to. Trust me if you read the Darkwing Duck and Duck Tales Crossover Story you will probably like it. It is a very interesting storyline. I read it at least every two weeks. It's a must read if you are a Duck Tales Fan or a Darkwing Duck Fan or a Fan of both of the aforementioned shows.

I don't have any of the individual BOOM Disney issues, but I have all of the Uncle Scrooge paperbacks, four Mickey Mouse paperbacks, the hardcover Walt Disney Classics books (Christmas, Valentines, Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck), three of their five Don Rosa books, DuckTales: Rightful Owners and the Walt Disney's Comics and Stories Archives: Vol. 1. I've read the Ultraheroes books, the first Wizards of Mickey volume, both Rescue Rangers books and the Samurai-themed Donald Duck book, but have since sold them to a used bookstore. From this sampling, their books are a mixed bag, ranging from poor (Rightful Owners, Around the World in 80 Bucks), bizarre (Ultraheroes, Wizards of Mickey), to surprisingly good (the Casty Mickey Mouse stories, the classic reprints and the two "Uncle Scrooge in DuckTales" books).

Apart from the Casty volumes, the best part of Boom's output, by a wide margin, was the stuff they did in the tragically brief period when they realized that Gemstone had had the right idea after all--so, the last half-dozen or so issues of DD, US, MM, and WDC. No fan should be without them.
I have HIGH HOPES for this IDW deal. Don't fuck it up, guys.

The fact that Disney gave IDW this license is actually a huge bullet-dodge for these titles. I've worked with IDW in the past myself, and they're not to be underestimated in their careful and creative handling of licensed properties. I can't think of a publisher better suited to bring back the classic monthlies.

I hope you're right Argonaut. There hasn't been a company that has published Disney Comics since 2011 when Boom Studios lost it's license. I wonder if a majority of the people who are working at IDW grew up on Disney Comics like the people at Gladstone and Gemstone.

Oh, I have no doubt on IDW's competence.
It's just weird that Disney has its own affirmed comic publishing firm and doesn't use it. I suspect it might be for one or both of these possible reason:
1. IDW is going to PAY Disney regardless the sells. Which means sure money for Disney with no effort(they'd have to actually spend money and care about the sells by having Marvel to do it).
2. IDW has a greater presence on the newsstand\mall\supermarket\whatever they sell comics to the public at large than Marvel
Of course, those are only hypothesis: my knowledge of the comic publishing industry is quite limited.

Well I can help with a quick overview of the general market share in North American comic shops (pretty much the only reliable place to buy monthly comics here now), by publisher:

That's hypothesis 2 down, and I'm thinking you're not coming out of left field on the first one (though the truth is probably a bit more complicated). Or maybe someone at Disney's publishing department actually agrees that these comics deserve a quality treatment, and IDW has the best accolades to back it up? There's always hope, right? ;)

I'm very familiar with IDW thanks to their very well-done Ghostbusters series, which has just ended; I have high hopes for this new development.
I've often wondered about the lack of Marvel Disney comics post-Boom myself...honestly, one suspicion I've had is that Marvel just plain doesn't want to do them. I (mostly but not totally flippantly) suspect that it's because Disney wouldn't let them use their usual business model, namely putting Spider-Man, Iron Man, and/or Wolverine in all of them.

I've patronized IDW for some time, buying some of their comic strip collections and the MY LITTLE PONY titles, and they definitely seem to have their heads screwed on correctly when it comes to handling licensed properties. I have very high hopes for this.
