Happy 2012, everyone !
I don't have the first Donald Duck volume, but the first two-volume set of Mickey Mouse dailies is splendid and perfect! At long last, in 2011, we finally got the start of both a Gottfredson collection (and a gorgeous one, too) and a new Barks collection.
Though those are non-Disney strips, in 2012 we will also finally get Fantagraphics' oft-delayed Pogo collection by ex-Disney artist Walt Kelly.
I hope there will also be a Taliaferro anthology from this year on.
Here's wishing also for successful new Disney comic books, with a reprise of the very nice SC collections Boom has started.

My hope is that we will see the standard Disney titles published again in the US. At least Boom's license will expire this summer and another publisher can step up!

Boom already lost their license. They are not publishing any more Disney Comics. I also hope that they will publish the standard Disney Comics titles in the US.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's already expired, unless there's some technical thing I don't know about.

I read from multiple sources that one of the reasons that there has been no news on the next US publisher is that Boom still holds the license till mid-2012 and they have simply chosen not to publish (rather than their having had their license pulled), and so no one else can take over until that license expires. That may not be true, though, since the degree of secrecy around all this is astounding.

But I thought the reason they were in such a hurry to get the Ducktales/DW crossover out was that they were under the gun and had to do it before they lost the license? I dunno.

Thanks :) I do hope for a renew of Disney comics for the general public, too. It's really a shame to see we got to a point that no company is even publishing them anymore in the USA, the home country of Disney! I think all the mistakes Disney did in general to their brand starting from the 2000's hurt them a lot, and still does.

Unless something's changed very recently, they're only licensed to do the Barks and Gottfredson reprints.

I don't live in the USA, but judging by the data (or absence thereof) at INDUCKS, the US publisher has indeed ceased publications. I hope they resume. Hmmm... Wiki article about Disney comics states that they'd seen a lack of popularity in their country of origin during the last couple of decades. Can anyone comment on that? I am really curious about the degree of Disney comic popularity in the USA.
As for 2012, the first poster nailed it. Reprinting the whole legacy of artists like Floyd Gottfredson or Carl Barks is a fabulous idea. In fact, Italy has already done this in 2010-2011, they've reprinted all early Mickey Mouse strips. I hope Al Taliaferro's legacy will follow. I find the general idea behind those "Hall of Fame" editions quite appealing, as for years these artists worked in total anonymity, although they certainly deserve some credit for their fantastic work over the years.
