If you want, I can send you a free copy of the German DD Sonderheft in which we presented the first ever reprint of the Beagletrap story. I still have some spare copies left.

Saw it at the local comic sci-fi store here. Just wanted to say that some artwork got jagged lines.
(In case you are sensitive about such stuff. I sure am.)
Probably a result of too low resolution.
And unfortunately there are no introductions to the stories. (The european DR books got plenty of that. )
Hopefully an American publisher will get around to publish this instead: http://donrosa.nu.nxtfiles.com/
And ... I saw the preview of the upcoming Comics & Stories Archive in the back of the book. Compared to the Fantagraphics "Our Gang" books etc this looks terrible. They really should get someone with knowledge on how to reproduce from old comic books to do these archive volumes.

Hi there Jano,
Would you happen to have an 'extra' spare copy left of the German DD Sonderheft book?
Thanks,
Tom Wormstedt

I've got the book now, got it on Friday. It's a bit of a disappointment, unfortunately. Sure, this is good stuff, but there are some things which are just too bad.
-I'm one of the few fans of Don Rosa's artwork. But these are his earliest stories (1988-1990) and it just doesn't look good yet. He's still too much trying to imitate Barks' style. Also, his stories aren't as good as they're going to be.
-These are only Donald Duck stories, and they're mostly short (exceptions: Return to Plain Awful and The Crocodile Collector). This isn't Rosa's type of stories: he works much better with Scrooge, adventure stories. Some people blame Rosa for making too 'big' stories (doing tricks with gravity, the Ducks to the centre of the earth, Scrooge's life - full with historical details), but you can see in these stories that without it, it just isn't Don Rosa-like. I like his stories because they're full of history. If I want to read something lighter, I'll read Van Horn.
-The art looks a bit faded sometimes. You can see this the best in the only story that's relettered and recolored from the Gemstone era: Fir-Tree Fracas (the christmas story). The colors come from Picsou Magazine 443 (look up on Inducks here).
Don't get me wrong, the book is fine. But it's just the problem: if you're going to collect somebody's complete works, you've got to include the bad stuff. Oh, and I'm only halfway through the book. So what I said earlier, is only based on the stories until The Crocodile Collector.
Plus point: The Starstruck Duck. :)
Does somebody else have the book, and has something to say about it?

well I agree with your criticism about Rosa´s drawings...not my cup of tea either...but that´s only based on personal opinion.
The book appears to be well done, it doesn´t match the European Disney standards though. 2 editorial pages are not enough for a book, which is mainly aimed at collectors.
Did you notice that the book is made in China? I want to slap Boom! to the head for that...it´s really sad to see how even minor American companies jumped on the globalization bandwagon. I´d gladly pay a few bucks more if it would have been produced in a western country.

I don't like this either. I'm happy to pay more for a "printed in the united states" tag. But that seems to get rare. Fantagraphics prints in China as well.

I knew what stories would be in the book, so the content is fine. However, Boom half-assed the entire project by not getting Don Rosa's assistance on it. It's easier to read than digging through my boxes of comics. That's the only positive thing about it.

I've now read a bit more of the book, and I'll reconsider some of my points.

A minor mistake here, his stories are from 1987 until 1990. Still, you're stuck with his first two years. From The Crocodile Collector on, it starts to get better.

The original coloring seems to come from the Scandivnavian Hall of Fame books, I see. The colorer is also listed, and it's definately a Scandinavian. I think they couldn't get the American version, and had to make a new one.

I didn't notice that the Donald Duck Treasury Vol. I was printed in China until I just read Charlie Brown's post here. I assume Vol. II will be, too. That's very disappointing to me. It already bothered me buying that because I've grown not to like BOOM as a company. I dislike the way they canceled the Classics and pretty much disappeared off their own forum with seldom even answering inquiries about the matter.
Then they also appear not to work with Don Rosa and we don't get his really fun to read introductions to his stories. Now they're printed in China which is really disappointing for Walt Disney Stories that are written and drawn by an American artist.
I just checked and the previous BOOM duck stories I had been buying were printed in the USA at least. All this is sad because I want to buy the product because it's great finally having a lot of Don Rosa stories in a book together.

Fantagraphics material is published in China as well, so I do hope that you won't be missing out on their wonderful projects because of that fact.

In the Don Rosa house tour, he commented himself on this. He wants his stories to be published in the way he likes it (proper translation and coloring). Also, I heard Don copyrighted his name, so that publishers can't make Don Rosa collections without telling him. At least the Norwegian/German collection is on the way, which has been made in cooperation with Rosa. :) It's a shame BOOM is just too lazy to do it (I think it's lazyness). I am also a fan of his background explanations. But they're not in here. :(
