Hi all!
Just wanted to let everyone know that Rosa's "Journey to the Centre of the
Earth"-story will be out next week here in Norway. Probably in the other
Scandinavian countries as well. And this weeks issue contained a really good
story by Van Horn (I think) with Donald in charge of a hotel full of old,
resting people. This has been the best Duck-story I've read in a long time
(well, since the Croesus-story, anyway :)
I won't go into the rest of the issue, as Joergen will probably bring you
all up to date on that.

and a little bit about myself. My name's John Lustig and I've been writing
Disney stories (mostly featuring the ducks) since 1988. I started towards
the end of Gladstone's first run. Then I did a few stories for Disney. I'm
now freelancing for Egmont.
The artist I've been teamed with the most is my friend William Van Horn. It
looks like Bill and I will be working together again occasionally in the
future, but right now most of my Egmont stories are being drawn by Vicar.
(I've only had one story drawn by Branca, but it was enough to make me hope
there will be more.)
Personal matters have kept me from doing too much writing in the last few
years, but I'm trying to get back into a regular writing schedule.
I'm quite new to E-Mail and I have to admit that I find all this computer
wizardry a little overwhelming. I'm still trying to get my bearings and I
suspect that my final electronic address is going to be different. (I'm still
looking for a good Internet gateway.)
Because I'm still getting my bearings and I'm still struggling to find enough
time for my regular writing, I probably won't be posting a lot of messages
here at first. But I will when I can and if anyone has any questions I'll do
my best to answer them.

John, I don't know if Per already told you so, but we do quite a lot of
work trying to track down the works of various creators and index them in
different ways. I, for instance, am responsible for the list of William
Van Horn's (more or less) complete Duck works. Do you possibly have the
time to take a look at that list and see if there are any major errors in
it? In particular, of course, see if we managed to get the information
correct on the stories you collaborated with him on.
If so, let me know and I will send you the list by private email.

internet. It may have been because I used mixed case in the address-so I
will again express my thanks to those farflung friends of Carl's works.
It did indeed put a :-) on his face when he read them. We are now
readying for his next honor which is to become the Oregon Citizen of the
Year on 30.3.95. See, I can even use European calendar abbreviations. I
may need it when I visit Norway, Germany and Austria this summer. Carl
regrets that he cannot do anything more for his fans who have wished him
well. The letters will go into his scrapbook. He is pleased that I have
taken the initiative of taking care of this thankyou's for him. You still
have time to write. It is now -5 days to 94. gwt

A little too much happened at once last week, so I haven't had time
to do any reviews yet. I'll try to write them tomorrow.
I see that something really interesting has happened while I was
away (well, yesterday, but still...).
WELCOME to John Lustig! Great to have you here. This list is getting

Anyway, if you're somehow reading this, I do have some comments to
your articles. I think I am the one who have been most critical to
them (on this list).
Now, after what you've said about how they change the articles,
I'm not sure who to criticize..., but anyway, here's what I don't like
about them. I liked the article about Don Rosa, BTW, but certainly not
the one about Black Pete.
The articles seems to try to create the illusion that all stories
about the Disney characters are written and drawn by the same person
(yeah, we all know they're by Walt Disney...) and takes place in the
same universe. Things like "Once Donald Duck did..." and "This is a
photograph of Black Pete..." aren't very informative when it isn't
mentioned at all where this is taken from. Even this stupid policy of
not giving credits to writers and artists can't possibly make anyone
believe that a story drawn by Murry and one by Tello are by the same
artist (?). Even if they don't tell who did it, it could be told that
the stories are by different people with different opinions about the
characters. If this is to be done in the future too, then someone will
have to say that "Once Mickey and Goofy run a transport company",
even if this is only one of the things done with the characters at this
time.
So, maybe they're written/changed/cut for children? Well, I have
been a child myself, not that long ago, and I'm quite sure that I
wouldn't have liked to read anything that was neither meant to be a
funny or exciting story nor and interesting article, but just a bunch
of meaningless "facts". It is possible to write articles that children
will find interesting, but this is, IMHO, not the way to do it.

I may be wrong, but I seem to remember seeing a red-headed 'girl duck' in a
comic some years ago. What I need is a GIF file of this red-headed lady
duck for a red-headed lady that I met recently. ;-)
Her birthday is coming up and I want to make an electronic birthday card
for her with the red-head girl duck in it.
