himself gave you his first name when you met him. But since you didn't
remember his last name (Dejgaard had to tell you), you probably wouln't
have remembered his first name either. So I asked a stupid question.
Your Croesus story was published today in the Dutch DD Extra #2.
And what I expected came out to be true: the story SHOULD be read
in one part, not in three parts. I liked the story much better now that
I read it in one piece!
Did you make a separate 1-part version for this story? The Dutch version
has 1/2-page panels, which are almost the same as the Gladstone panels.
It looks as if this story does not need a replacement for the 1/2-page
panels, because they fit in perfectly.
I still maintain that the Lydians have a strange dialect. The way they
spell Surse and Midos... (And in one panel, there is the text "DPHEOW"
in Greek. Any special meaning?)

one-part stories, and YOU have told them the same thing, right? And the
one-part version reads and looks better when the story is published in one
part, obviously, so it would behoove them to use it. I don't know what else

In Swedish Donald pocket book 39 (the corresponding issue in Denmark
is #41 -- otherwise I don't know) filled mostly with Italian stories
as those pocket books are, it seems like some stories have been
exchanged for others at a late moment.
There's a story about stamp collecting where Donald and Fethry
find lots of copies of a rare stamp which was thought to be lost by
the stamp-collecting community. Rockerduck gets hold of one of them
which he thinks will earn him a win at the "World Championships in
Philately", but Scrooge has all the other ones.
Anyway, at the end of that story there's a link where Scrooge says
"Speaking of stamps I used a stamp to hide my portrait on a letter I
sent to Goofy. I wonder if he realized that that would help to
solve the mystery of the capitated totem pole..."
But then follows *not* a story about this totem pole but instead two
totally unrelated stories. Then after them the next story has a
caption that reads
"Rockerduck has gone to the Indian territory to discover the secret
of the capitated totem pole, but instead been arrested by the
police. Meanwhile this strange adventure continues, now at Grandma
Duck's farm..."
This last story is coded I 909 and is followed by one last totem pole
story, but evidently there's a lot missing in the Scandinavian edition
of this, as it's never said what this totem pole business is all
about, and nothing is seen of what is referred to about neither Goofy
or Rockerduck. Is there something special in the early parts of this
story that the editors suddenly might have thought inappropriate to
publish?
By the way: One of the two totally unrelated stories stuck in between
is the Barks story "Captains Outrageous" from Junior Woodchucks 25
with art by Kay Wright. The code here is "W.VR.25". What does this
VR stand for?

The first volume of the new Uncle $crooge Adventures just came out. And
boy does my wallet hate me!
First of all, some of my confusion was explained by the back cover, which
explained that this is an album series which will be printed bi-weekly
(Watch your wallets!), with lapses in April-July of this year, when we
get the reprinting of Lo$. And there are more scheduled breaks
perioddically for Van Horn and Rosa albums. And there are supposed to be
more longer specials.
So I just spent $9 on one 20-some-odd Uncle $crooge story that I already
have from a reprint not too long ago by Gladstone.
Good points:
* Larger art
* White paper
* Susan Daigle-Leach coloring
* Nice format - harder cover
* Interesting article which I have't read before.
Bad points:
* $9 for one story
* $9 for one story
* $9 for one story.
It's not that I object to paying the price. I just feel guilty afterwards.
BTW, was Gladstone supposed to drop images in those blue squares on the
back cover? It looks like a spot for reprints of covers or something,
but they are empty.

The empty squares are intended to be used to show covers
of previous volumes in the series, but since this is the
first one, there aren't any back issues to show.

Indian territory that Per is talking about from my younger days. I was
very fascinated then by the plot. There are in fact many more parts of it
than the two fragments mentioned published in Swedish, most of them in
the entirely wrong order in the pocket books. I have not tried to check
the details about this, but I should think that most parts have been
published in Swedish. One interesting aspect is that the very last part
was not published until several years later in Farbror Joakim (Uncle
Scrooge).
I know that I have written about this earlier in this forum, probably a
couple of years ago. Try searching previous archives for "beheaded totem
pole".

story you just read recently. I'm looking at these albums as an opportunity
to pick up the stories I haven't yet seen. Others may have read them a long
time ago and now want this higher quality edition and intend to buy them all.
But I also suspect that the stories in these albums will probably pop up in
a comic book pretty soon anyway now that they've been colored and most of the
overhead will have already been paid. Since I've read "Only a Poor Old Man"
in the same recent reprint Augie mentioned, I have no intention of buying the
album -- but what other stories can I look forward to finally seeing in this
album series?

I remember when the hardcover Carl Barks Library came out and how high
the price seemed. These new albums are more expensive than the hardcover
books. Part of the reason is color, part is paper costs and who
knows what else. As a result, I've been buying whatever hardcovers I can
find, simply to save money.
And those trading cards, which add to the cost of the new albums, have
no value to me whatsoever. It also means that I can't flip through the
albums to check the contents or the reproduction quality because the
dang things are shrink-wrapped.

series... 0 I did before I knew I would do the series, and 8b was done for a
special purpose for Bruce Hamilton, and was not designed to look like part
of the series. But when I do chapter 6b, I'll make sure it looks like
chapter 6b.
I also found out that it's too late to correct the year-dates which
act as issue numbers on those album covers. There will be gaps showing
between the issues which DON'T exist. People will think they are missing an
issue when they aren't! Gad, mislabelling irks my anal retentive nature!
