This week, a new Mau Heymans story, about Donald as violinplayer, has been
published in Dutch weekly 'Donald Duck'15-2006. Written by him and Kirsten
de Graaf.
http://coa.inducks.org/story.php/x/H+24069

During the making of the script, in 2004, Mau asked me to proofread and
criticize rough versions of this story and a few others. First, there came
faxes of a version where the symphony only was a little side-gag in the
text: "De Onvolmaakte" by composer "Schubner". (The title "De Onvolmaakte"
means, more or less, "The Imperfect" or "The Unfullfilled".) I imagined it
to be some unfinished famous composition, as left by a deceased classic
composer, as the reference to (I guess) Schubert and Wagner seemed to
suggest. In a following version Mau removed the title and Schubner from the
text, and I suggested what I hoped he had in mind when referring to a
composition with such a remarkable, funny title. Mau decided to work it out
and made other changes in the ending, expanding the script from 6 pages to 8
pages, like adding panel 7.3. My idea resulted in panels 8.3-8.6 (second and
third tier). Difference is that I suggested a notable critic/expert to
appear, instead of the composer himself. The composer now is named "Diederik
van Swiete". (In the last version I saw of the script, the composer's name
is "Ludwig van Zweethoven" and "Van Eendhoven".)

That's just what I was discussing about a few days ago on dcml irc chat!
I also noticed that DCML frequentation isn't what it was, and that we should
think about making it a bit more modern, easy readable, at least for the
archives.
I think we should make something more "forumistic" with the archives, and
also easily searchable, as it should appear as one of the best Disney comics
source on the web, and it's AFAIK one of the only place where we can seriously
discuss Disney comics in English... Moreover, it would make it something more
viewable for everyone on the web, not only the active members who, so far, can be
the only ones who know where to find in the archives a specific message...
And the example I had in mind were also McDuck.nl Daniel just mentionned, as
well as Disney comicforum.de, which both seem to be real good forums, but where I
can hardly understand a word, as I don't speak German, nor Dutch...
Well, It's easy to say that when I don't know anything about how to create
and maintain a real forum, but I think that's something we could all think about
and suggest solutions...
Of course, the content itself is more important than the way it looks, but I
keep thinking it cannot stay that way...
Eventually, maybe the dcml members who have Disney related activities other
than the mailing list could send some little posts from time to time, like
reports or such...

Best regards to you all,

The point is that this being a mailing list, I don't have to visit
anything at all. While a forum, I *do* have to visit, and that's why I
seldomly visit them.

I agree completely. That's why I never follow web boards, blogs and all
that stuff. A mailing list just comes in and sometimes, when I have a
moment, I even read it. But "pull" stuff, I'd never keep up with it,
plus there's no easy way to archive it or answer offline.

Thanks, Luca, for enlightening us! :-)

Please don't. I like the old-fashioned mailing list. At discussion forums,
you have to access a lot of webpages to discuss. The list is a much simpler
and less time-consuming way to communicate.

You can search the archives with Google groups:

I don't know. Probably not soon. Maybe sometime. Possibly never.

It's quite possible, but different forums work in different ways.
Use whatever suits you best. Impatience like that is rather out of
place on a mailing list that most subscribers prefer to read in daily
digests anyway.

As a little test to see what happens, there's an English topic on McDuck.nl:

De software of McDuck.nl runs on PunBB. http://www.punbb.org/
People who know that software, will easily find their way.

A few questions:

* How do I read replies to that topic without having to go to a website
all the time, and without having to be online whilst reading?
* How do I archive the replies in a useful way?
* How do I write replies offline, for automatic submission once I go online?

But what for? People who like forums are already there. People who don't
are not and won't be. People who just don't care are probably on both
(or none).

I, for one, also am on the Italian Disney forum (Papersera), but I sure
check it less often than any of my mailing lists.

That's indeed a problem.

It could be a way to get internetfora more connected internationally.

What does this have to do with impatience, Per? The advantage of internet is
that one can have real-time discussions, also on mailing lists. In the past
it was possible to get answers on DCML within minutes.
