I used to look forward to reading Torcivia's letters in the Gemstone Disney Comics. It was almost like having a second letter from the editor.

I, too, always enjoyed reading Torcivia's letters. For many years, almost every Superman and Batman comic included a letter from Kent Phenis of Indianapolis, Indiana, and almost every Disney comic included a letter from Joey Torcivia of Westbury, Connecticut. I hope IDW will have one page---or even two pages---of letters in each Disney comic. And would it be possible for IDW to publicize the Disney Comics Forum in the Disney comics? After all, this forum publicizes the comics. If the comics publicized the forum, we would have what the Walt Disney Copmpany calls "synergy."
Here is an interesting page about Flintstones comics from Joe's blog:

I think Duckburg 100 is the strongest story in the revived line so far. My only qualm is the suddenness of the conclusion, but that panel of Scrooge atop a tank martialing a Beagle Boy ambush made me laugh, so it's a trade-off.
So, when will IDW make a Captain Retro-Duck miniseries?

^He's a character Joe Torvivia invented for the 'Duckburg 100' Americanization to explain some anachronistic bits of technology. Donald's obsession with acquiring walkie-talkies he sees advertized on TV is explained by having them be merchandising tie-ins for Captain Retro Duck, a nostalgia-based superhero.

The Captain Retro Duck was a smart move.
I would like to see original publication dates included in the table of contents for these issues (Gemstone used to do that).
However, I could see where there may be a hesitation to include the dates and making the materials seem "old" to a new audience.

We'll be including those dates starting in our month-four issues.

Quick question re: "The Duckburg 100" in US#3, is there a reason we have Beagle Boys with "atypical" badge numbers (1s, 2s and 3s rather than the more familiar 176-XXX, I thought I saw a 456-XXX in there too)? Was this in the original Scarpa story, or was it meant to be a reference to something else?

"My Picsou is Rich" ... sounds like a trending Twitter hashtag.

Scarpa's Beagles rarely had the typical 176- badges. Other Italian Beagle stories took their lead from Scarpa, so they don't consistently go 176-ward either.
In Gladstone days and at least once at Gemstone, Scarpa Beagle-badges were painstakingly changed to bring them in line with the 176- formula. Today, though, I'd rather remain true to Scarpa's intent.

I was always wondering why the english versions of My Picsou is Rich series didn't use the actual english names for characters like using the name "Scrooge" as the english name instead of Picsou. Maybe because they thought that the french fans will get confused with the real english names of characters or something? Of course, many french fans recognize Scrooge as Picsou but I think that there are some french fans who knew that Picsou's english name was Scrooge. I remember that in some "My Picsou is Rich" english translations of Brer Rabbit stories, they used "Brother Rabbit" as the english name of Bibi Lapin (French Brer Rabbit). It seems that they knew that "Brer" is the short for Brother and maybe that why they used the name "Brother Rabbit". The english titles of BR stories are the same as the real American ones and they didn't change the title and that why you can see "Brer Rabbit" in the title but in the stories, he was only called as Bibi Lapin and as "Brother Rabbit".

So is "My Picsou is Rich" the name of a particular series of stories, or the title of a particular issue of a book series, or an actual comic book title, or what? Also, Eye for an Eye, Tooth for a Tooth is a somewhat overly dramatic title for such a light story, I far prefer Donald's Gabby Guest. While this particular story is kind of weak, I'm very happy to see these never-before-printed-in-US Disney Studio stories, so please keep them coming!

In this day of blogs, fora and easily-accessible social media, I wonder if letter columns in comic books even make sense any more? Is IDW planning to start one for the Disney books?

I had some letters written in some of the old Gemstone issues. Those issues were Walt Disney's Comics and Stories #663, Mickey Mouse and Friends #289, Mickey Mouse and Friends #292, and Walt Disney's Comics and Stories #698

I enjoy reading the letters, especially the ones from Joe Torcivia and others who can provide interesting details and analyses. Until recently, when letters appeared in an issue of a comic---from any publisher---they were usually in reference to an issue published three or four months earlier. Now that we can send letters via e-mail or cell phone, many publishers, such as Marvel, are printing letters which refer to a comic issued just one or two months prior. When I read letters now, I can still remember the comic being referred to, as opposed to many years ago when I'd have to skim through an issue again so I knew what the letter writers were talking about. I vote for IDW having letters pages in all the Disney comics.
