Since this is bumped, anyone heard any confirmation on the Barks collection coming out this fall? Ramapith?

Quote from user: Dean Rekich...I would like to hear what others think of this news. I myself am very excited, even if my wallet and credit cards are a little upset! :) I am thrilled that Gemstone is finally publishing Barks and Rosa libraries!
My own wallet is saying "Don't even THINK about it". As for my credit cards, the really useful ones are dead and buried. :P

That's great news though, and I am hoping Amazon will come through on those titles pretty soon. :)

Quote from user: Sigvaldjust compare CBSV with CBL and you'll understand what I mean.
Well, I have the latest books of CBL in Colors from Gladstone, but have not seen the Norwegian version of the library! Are there a lot of materiale extra in the Norwegian compared to the Gladstone books??

The Carl Barks Collection Box 1 is still available for preorder at Amazon Germany:

Delivery date November, 2008.
Price tag: EUR 107.

Sounds great. But is it true? I hope so :)!!

I'm guessing it's not coming out. I preordered it on the day it was announced on Amazon, so if it does I'll get it for sure, but now it's less than 3 months from the date it's supposed to come out, and Gemstone hasn't said a word about it, nor has it reappeared on Amazon US. I'd love for David to pop into this thread and let us know one way or the other, if he is able to.

If Gemstone hasn't mentioned anything about The Carl Barks or Don Rosa Libraries. The closest thing they have to them are The Barks and Rosa Libraries with original stories by Barks and the sequels by Rosa which are published back to back.

Oh boy! I can't wait until January when the Don Rosa Library Volume 1 comes out! I will definitely be buying all of the volumes, assuming the entire series ends up getting published...
Heck, I'd probably even buy an entire Carl Barks Library collection no matter what the cost to my wallet might be. Really hoping that one eventually gets published.
By the way, does anyone possibly know the state of the Barks/Rosa Collection Volumes 3 and 4?
I already own the first 2 and would love to see more of these released. Unfortunately, it seems Amazon has no idea when they're being released.

I'm also waiting for the Barks/Rosa Collection #3 and #4. I already preordered them at Amazon :) The first ones are really great. Great stories! And I find the comments by Rosa very interessting.

It might well be delayed again. i doubt that Gemstone has made plans to drop it altogether, otherwise they would have announced that.
JeffT
Well, back on the first page of this thread David's comments didn't exactly fill me with optimism, Robb. I hope you're right of course.
Quote from user: "Ramapith"...things are pretty durn tentative. Our distribution arm asks us to submit our information for Amazon??? and other online retailers??? nearly a year in advance. So these early plans are often subject to change.
Charlie Brown
"often" doesn't mean "always" ;) There is still hope.
Perhaps David can give us an update on this project?
Robb_K
The "subject to change", sounds more to me like postponement of release, or change in quality, rather than cancellation of the whole proposed project. If Gemstone has decided not to go through with publishing a Carl Barks Collection, they would likely announce that, as people may have already gotten on a list for ordering it, and need to know whether it will be published or not. I would ALWAYS be ready for publishing delays, but not be overly worried that the project will be completely cancelled.
Charlie Brown
I hope they don't change too much in quality. The European Carl Barks collection is really great!

Also great in quality is the Peanuts collection: e.g. http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Peanuts-Box-Set-1963-1966/dp/1560978686/
And the price is really good. But the comics are all black and white. But that's okay for me.

I think, I would also buy a black and white Barks Collection like the one from Another Rainbow (http://coa.inducks.org/publication.php?c=us/CBL). I think quality comes before color.

Quote from user: Charlie BrownI think, I would also buy a black and white Barks Collection like the one from Another Rainbow. I think quality comes before color.
I've always considered color an inseparable?and therefore essential?part of the comic experience. I could not enjoy a story that's black line art?no matter how artistic the line or famous the artist. The addition of color is so much more aesthetic than plain black lines?but I suspect that's subjective. Less subjective is the fact that the human eye is designed to transmit color to the brain, and the brain functions to make decisions about the world based on color. It's confusing and taxing to the brain?at least MY brain?to be made to decipher a pattern of similar black scribbles without the relief of color to make the image more understandable, familiar and comfortable.

I could never read through the Another Rainbow volumes of black ink. I would require a padded room thereafter?and I'm not referring to their exorbitant price. The actual comics for which the drawings were designed are so much more enjoyable.

So I think as far as I'm concerned, the pencil art and the inking is but the beginning of the completed quality product. A diamond is but a rock until it is processed into a gem.

I suppose David is the only person who can really fill any of us in on the actual state of the Carl Barks and Don Rosa libraries. It would be nice if he chimed in again on this thread.
